So Keith, Phil and Rachel
were sitting around at the studio one morning, shortly after Jon Stewart's rally, and Keith said, "You know I really hate being lumped in with those mother******s at Fox. But no matter how we scream, nobody believes we're any different."

Rachel said, "I've been thinking about that and you know what? I have a idea."

"What's that?"

"You remember those donations you gave to Grijalva and Giffords?"

"He gave one to Conway, too," Phil said. "I almost didn't approve it."

Rachel nodded. "Well, what if we pretend Keith never told you about them?"

"To what end?" Keith said.

"It's simple," Rachel told them. "We leak news of the donations to Politico, and once the news comes out, Keith 'confesses' to Phil and Phil turns around and suspends Keith without pay for a few days."

Keith frowned. "I'm not sure I like the sound of that."

"Nobody has to know you're still getting paid. What're they gonna do, check the payroll records?" Rachel smiled. "Think about it. News like that will be major. Everyone will be talking about it. Then I can go on the air and slam Fox for the donations they've made and point out how nobody over there has ever been suspended. That MSNBC has integrity and Phil has proven it by suspending Keith."

Phil nodded. "You know, that might just work. Keith takes a few days vacation, MSNBC takes a little heat, but in the end we come out of it looking like a real news organization."

"Unlike Fox," Rachel said.

Keith considered this a moment and mirrored Rachel's smile. "I feel a special comment coming on."

1. You really think that little of KO and Rachel?
I find this suggestion that they are simply manipulative cretins disgusting.

2. Lighten up
It's meant to be ridiculous.

I posted it for two reasons 1) All the ridiculous conspiracy theories around DU regarding Comcast, etc.; and 2) just to see if anyone at DU actually has a sense of humor. Because I haven't been able to find one so far.

3. re:
Your "humor" is in your own mind. Telling others to "lighten up" will likewise not gain you any "guffaws."

that will enjoy your little "humorous" conspiracy theory-laden litany--- FR.com among them. I keep finding this kind of crap in my inbox. Whatever your motives it is just plain stupid.

Edited on Sun Nov-07-10 10:56 AM by hlthe2b
there are enough frothing freepers extolling all RW talking points regarding this whole saga, that there is not much chance of me "drying up."

And, no, it was not funny, unless you find the freeper fare at FR.com funny, since it clearly emulates their conspiracy theories. I have had a non-stop stream of this crap in my email inbox and I really really don't find it funny.

I consider their posts likewise stupid. But, I find they, are equally amused at their own "cleverness..." :eyes:

9. I'm sure I'll get heat for this ...
.. but as a 40 year radio veteran, that's exactly the kind of stuff we'd pull when ratings periods would start (especially if we were a little bit behind.) I'm NOT saying this is a stunt to increase ratings , but it is coincidental that the November sweeps started at the same time (and just after the Stewart Colbert Rally)and, as far as broadcast media goes I am NOT a big believer in coincidence.

28. Interesting info...thanks.
Actually, as I was reading that, I found myself hoping it could be true.

Not just for ratings.... that would be sleazier.... but I think its clear we are going to have to really fight to regain the megaphone.

We could do a lot worse than to begin plotting.

6. KO
lost credibility with me during the last Dem Presidential primaries when he clearly favored one Dem candidate over all others - and one in particular. He's just another frickin' biased journalist trying to use his position to influence others. Not a whole hell of a lot different than some of the folks on Fox. Same shit different agenda.

Yeah, I really think that little of KO. I haven't watched him in a couple of years now. Haven't missed seeing him. Don't have any sympathy for him regarding the latest incident, And would have no objection if he were permanently reassigned to the sports desk.

You are free to disagree of course.

Anyone that says there is equivalency between KO and ANYONE on Fux is either delusional, very misinformed, or both.

You are free to disagree of course! :hi:

11. Ummmm......
So I should tolerate Democratic bias from a journalist but not tolerate Republican bias?

KO was a biased arrogant prick - and anything but a competent independent journalist - during the last Dem Presidential primaries. He lost all credibiility with me then. It's not like he was biased in favor of Dems in general. Noooooooooooo. He was biased in favor of one particular Dem candidate over all challengers (and one in particular). That kind of bias has no place in honest credible independent journalism.

Biased journalism is kind of like tainted water. I'm certainly not going to drink the water if it's putrid and has turds in it. Likewise I'm not going to drink the water even if it appears to be pristine if I know somebody has pissed in it. It is obvious to me that KO pissed in the drinking water.

You, of course, are free to drink whatever you choose.

FWIW, you do not know what is a minority or majority view on DU. You can only measure what views are being voiced by the comparatively small percentage of DUers who actually post on any particular topic. Not that I care. I do not require the validation of DU of anyone else. My beliefs are worth more than being part of any "majority" here or anywhere else.

22. I'm glad you are feeling good about yourself.
But to equate KO in any way to the right-wingers is ridiculous. KO is biased, as is every human being. But he is generally biased towards the truth, whereas the right-wing talkers are pretty much biased towards lies and misinformation. But whatever, right?

10. Still sore over Hillary, huh?
Well, guess what. What he said about her was TRUE. ALL of it. But I know the truth hurts.

But to compare him to Fox for that is ridiculous. He didn't say a thing that wasn't true.

A biased journalist is a bad journalist.

KO compared to Fox? Biased journalism. Different agendas. Neither are credible.

15. Is he sold as a journalist?
I thought he was doing a show with news and commentary.

I appreciate an opinion writer or an opinion speaker who shares many of my values - a bias in favor of the truth. A bias in favor of ordinary people against the powerful. A bias in favor of peace and understanding, when others are fomenting war and division.

Not that I am saying that KeithO does all of that, but only that bias in an opinion writer is not, in itself, a disqualification.

Heck, considering how often the AP goes the other way, I would not even mind having a few journalists on my/our side

18. I have never regarded Olbermann
as a journalist, but as a political commentator. As such, and not knowing the specific terms of his contract with MSNBC, I expected that he would donate to Democratic candidates' campaigns.

I was a Hillary supporter, but never objected to Keith Olbermann voicing his support for his choice of candidates in the presidential election.

That's kind of ancient history now.
