Outside my precinct today, had a guy ask me to sign a Rahm for Mayor petition.
My first reaction was laughter. I didn't sign. Rahm can be mayor without my support.

1. DID you laugh, and if so, what was his reaction?

2. I did laugh and said no thanks. He just walked away but I heard other people laughing.
I hope they didn't think I was a Republican. I'm just not going out of my way to support Rahm.

9. Yes it is.
It's weird because Daley has been mayor pretty much my whole adult voting life. So this is a new experience for me.

5. I'm no lover of Rahm
Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 05:57 PM by EC
but Chicago politics are tough and I think Rahm would make a very good mayor for Chicago...

On edit: What I'm saying is a "nice" guy would be eaten alive there...

7. You may be right, and I'll hold my nose and vote for him if I must because I sure
as hell won't vote for a Republican. But I'm not going to go out of my way to support him.

6. My wife and I...
have already volunteered for the campaign and have spent a couple of weekends collecting signatures in the city. The part I find odd is the people who are registered in Chicago and won't sign to give someone a chance to be on the ballot. It doesn't endorse anyone, it just allows them the chance. The tough part is, the weekends we were out, it was raining, so many native Chicagoans stayed home, so most of the people we spoke with were visitors and couldn't sign. It takes 12,500 signatures to get on the ballot.

8. I don't honestly know why I laughed. I respect the guy for standing out there collecting
signatures. I truly meant no disrespect to him or to you. It was an reflex reaction. But Rahm is just so over the top I just can't support his campaign, I don't like his style of politics. If he ends up being the Democratic choice, I'll vote for him. But I'm not going to be someone who helps get him on the ballot. I'm sure he'll have no trouble getting on the ballot with or without my signature.
