Judges' ruling would revive portion of Arizona immigration law

A federal appeals court on Monday appeared ready to revive at least part of Arizona's tough new immigration law while rejecting some of the more controversial provisions.

The three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, meeting in San Francisco, seemed inclined to rule that Arizona may require police in certain situations to investigate a person's immigration status if there is reasonable cause to suspect that person had committed a crime.
