NBC news just read letter complaining about calling Clinton "Mr President"
I just caught the tail end of Brian Wms reading viewer mail and apparently they received lots of complaints that he referred to Clinton as Mr President during his interview. The letter writer said that Bush is the president and he/she will be going back to Fox to get real news.

I wonder how many freepers were responsible for writing in that complaint?

Brian did respond by saying that the title "President" is for life and it was appropriate to use.

1. I'm surprised they weren't complaining that Brian doesn't say "Your Majesty"
Edited on Tue May-22-07 06:25 PM by librechik
instead of "Mr. Bush."

5. No longer a difference of opinion
It's idiots like this (btw, nice choice NBC) that make it clear to me that we've crossed the Great Divide and never the twain shall meet.
Now that we have been marginalized by our elected representatives and former President Carter, we'll have to buck up against these people - people who have effectively destroyed America.
If this will not be settled in Congress we have no choice but to take it to the streets.
The contempt and hatred shown by the fascists towards the Clinton's - while enabling the dismantling of our democracy - has exposed this garbage for what it is. They will never be satisfied unless their opposition is all but eliminated.
We have to fight back - nonviolently of course, but forcefully.
This was truly a black day in our history.

14. Yes, he said it and denied it
Perhaps you may have missed it.
Carter was quoted as saying that the current adminstration was "the worst in history" in regard to foreign affairs.
The next day, on the Today show, he essentially retracted his previous recorded statement.
Yes, he marginalized us.

12. Me too!
I usually steer clear of MSM but my TV was on in the back ground and hearing that just gave me the biggest laugh.

I'm imaging freepers starting a letter/email writing campaign to NBC in protest and to state their outrage at Brian having the nerve to call Bill Clinton "Mr. President". Makes me want to venture over to the dark side's website to investigate. LOL!

(I know the freeptoids ask for it, but this is the first time I've seen a Network anchor join in the chuckle)

11. They still call Asscrack "General".. instead of formerattorneygeneral
and they even called Gonzoriffic "General"..

The whole concept of using the "general" part has always grated on my last nerve. Freepy types do not realize that there are many definitions of the word "general", and the military appellation is NOT the one that's applicable here..

16. There was probably an *I dare ya* type thread rolling around on the Freep website.

... and someone took the bait and decided to anonymously E-Mail NBC. If they used snail mail I wonder if they included white powder in the envelope this time.

18. Brian's incorrect even if his style book says it's proper.
Former presidents aren't called Mr. President. Only the current POTUS is addressed that way. Ditto for the Veep. It's easy to find a Miss Manners reference on this but the same guidance is in "Protocol: The Complete Handbook of Diplomatic, Official & Social Usage" (Mary Jane McCaffree et alia) This is the more or less the bible of American protocol.

Here's a Miss Manners link for those without ready access to the above protocol guide:
