"GOP Is The New Black"

African-American voters have historically been a predominantly strong base for the Democratic party, but a Houston based group called Raging Elephants is looking to change that with a “GOP Is The New Black” campaign. The new billboard depicts a number of well-heeled African-American actors while trumpeting the new slogan. Its also likely to spark a debate that may include allegations of race-baiting, as well as a certain inquiry into where the funds initially came from…coming to a basic cable news program near you!

And whoever spent money on that ad is wasting their money. Houston? Tea-Party Central? REALLY?

17. Thought this would be the reaction too, you don't build said base off of the "Southern Strategy" ...
...then expect them to be inclusive overnight.

29. The GOP holds that ethnic groups vote as one
You have the "white vote" and the "black vote" and the "latino vote" etc. So they try to sell themselves to the race rather than the people. And most of that selling takes the form of ridiculous and frankly racist attempts to say "we're not racist!" rather than actually, you know, anything regarding issues.

If all you have to say to a person of color is "I'm not a racist" then he's going to walk away knowing damn well you are, since that's all you can fucking talk about.

30. Exactly,fox spends all of
of their time showing clips saying they are not a racist and then bring some black rightwing liar on as though that proves the point. The only thing people are saying is how much are they paying you...

How in the hell could they be winning when they have demeaned every group in the country and then they tell you, that you are the racist. Like usual they are projecting again..Blaming us for what they are doing.

Any lingering doubts I've had about things turning out well for us have just vanished.

20. I've never understood how any minority could vote for the Repukes.
Or, why the Repukes spend resources and lip service trying to get them? Seriously, other than this billboard and the token lip-service the GOP pays to "welcoming minorities" the rest of their platform and rhetoric is nothing but race-baiting.

I really don't see the point.

22. Well if Republicans are trying to get Black People
they must be in trouble. The only time use us is when they need something. And its usually information as to how we as black people think. They are still under the premise that African Americans vote for people based on their color. They don't believe they have the capacity to comprehend what is in their best interest. I love it when they get caught up in their own stereotypes.

23. The GOP, like other groups, have always used Black folks in order to not look racist.
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 03:33 PM by political_Dem
In that manner, everything (including Dr. King and the Civil Rights marches) is co-opted so that the public accepts the group in question with flying colors. And while this is so on the surface, underneath it all the members still exhibit their racial animus against African-Americans.

Thus, to use that phrase in such a manner is derogatory. Any brothers or sisters who fall for it either are crazy or have a persecution complex.

You'd have to be a fool to be treated like garbage in an organization who doesn't have your best interests at heart.

25. But if you vote Republican, you will transform into a tall, thin, fashion model.
You will turn into a Beyonce or Denzel Washington look-alike, and you will be friends with the beautiful people.

That's what they are hoping people will fall for.
