2 million demonstrated today according to the unions here in France
Edited on Thu Oct-28-10 10:57 AM by reggie the dog
cops say half a million but they have orders to low ball the numbers (a cop at the demonstration protesting with us said the cops in the field give real numbers and then each person up the heirarchy shaves them down and that is how we end up with different figures.) I took my daughter and proudly carried the red and black flag of my union (sud education). there were about 1500 of us in Draguignan including many off duty police officers and soldiers who protested!, there were even unionized bank tellers and loan officers from credit agricole! millions of us were in the street, 2 million means about 1 out of every 30 people in the country was in the street protesting today! vive la grève! nique le patronat!

keep in mind it is school holiday and people have a minimum of 5 weeks vacation so many people took their kids and went to the countryside for vacation... the numbers should go back up after the holidays are done!

3. I wish you and the Greeks could inspire more of us in the States!
I would especially like to see our unions follow your example by playing a broader role in protecting our social programs. Sadly, our wealthy elite has for 3 decades waged a successful class warfare against them.

Aux armes, citoyens! Formez vos bataillons!
