Tea Party groups admit Obama’s race is a factor
Source: RawStory.com

Tea Party activists have fumed at accusations of intolerance and racism, insisting their concerns about President Barack Obama are policy-oriented. Yet dozens of Tea Party groups have openly admitted to the Washington Post that the president's race is a factor in their activism.

In a lengthy investigation into the fledgling political movement that has made tremendous waves nationally, Amy Gardner reported that the Post identified more than 1,400 Tea Party groups across the nation and spoke extensively with 647 of them about their philosophies and ambitions.

"Eleven percent said that Obama's race, religion or ethnic background was either a 'very important' or 'somewhat important' factor in the support their group has received," the Post concluded.

As per the Post's reporting, that amounts to over 70 Tea Party organizations (eleven percent of 647) that willingly concede Obama's race is fueling their members' activism. Gardner quoted organizers questioning the president's citizenship and birth certificate, his Christian faith and "socialist" policies, with some going so far as to describe him as un-American.

Big dummies just can't get over that tanned skin.

2. Only 11% admitted to Obama's race being very/somewhat important.
I'd bet many of the others either chose not to own up to it or are of the "I don't see race" ilk.

4. We can expect the tea nutters to defend this, but it will be the MSM, especially the Tee Vee news
idiot news anchors and or political analysts who will put the whole thing into perspective for Americans...lol

Some way or another, this will be excused despite how telling it truly is.

5. I think most of us know race is a factor. I thought it was pointed out
months ago that there are small pockets of people scattered
all over the country who simply have a problem with the very
idea of a Black President. Nothing is going to change this
anytime soon. Not defending TeaParty but all in the TeaParty
do not believe this way.

Overtime, we can hope to change hearts. This is where the
only change takes place. How many years has it been since
Civil Rights Legislation??? The Majority of Americans have
moved forward leaving some pockets behind.

I would advise my responsible Republicans---Keep a lid on
candidates. Do not permit subtle race baiting. This creates
the impression that you are working to bring all white voters
to Republican Side. Short term gain can not make up for the
serious Long Term Risk.

6. To be fair
The Post also lumped Obama's religion in with the question about race. The tea partiers think Obama is a Muslim. That's more likely what they were objecting too. Of course, hating Muslims is bigotry too.

13. Yeah and they
equate Muslims = dark people, so in my opinion it's pure prejudice. They can't stand a person of color being Commander and Chief over the free world. Again my opinion, people on this cycle that vote GOP appears to me as prejudice, small minded, and much anger in their hearts.

14. Muslims = dark people,
Yes. Let's not forget that bill board with Obama as the 4 main minorities the Teabaggers are scared to death of: Muslim, Black, Latino, Gay. Obama depicted as each one....and Obama isn't even running for anything!

10. This falls into the "no shit Sherlock" category. The tea baggers on my
Veterans mailing list started sending out racist e-mails as soon as it appeared Obama was going to win the nomination. They continue to this day.

the media calls us (the people on the left) crazy when we know something, but i'd say 9 times out of 10 we are correct but when it comes out we where right, it gets swept under the rug. Liberal media my ass.

That's where I always stop reading these pieces. The media-created and Koch-funded "Tea Party" is only "making tremendous waves" in the media. It's all part of their story arc to legitimize the upcoming Potemkin "election" which the media will then anoint as "a MAN-date" to terminate all social programs (especially Social Security,) labor and environmental laws.

I think the Teabaggers showed their racial animus all their own. Besides the degree of racism is probably a lot higher within the group.

After all, having a person of color in one of the most powerful positions in the world is enough to cause some to go unhinged.

After all, we just can't have "those people" in office. We've got to take back America and keep it lily white! :sarcasm:
