Sean Bielat Compares Gays To Short People
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/24/sean-bielat-gays-are-like_n_773018.html

Bielat also did something else. He made a bizarre comparison when discussing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" to the Boston Herald, arguing that gays should have no guaranteed right to serve in the military -- just like short people

I don't even know where to being with that comment.

2. Not even Randy Newman would write a parody song about someone as idiotic as this dude.
Hopefully, because there are too few Bielats around to make the song believable.

3. That Comparison Has Validity
after all, I can't make myself taller any more than gay people can make themselves straight.

but when it comes to the military, we need to look at whether or not some one can perform certain physical and mental qualifications.

5. Erm
Which are the gays? Not living up to physical qualifications? Or mental?

7. I Guess I Should Have Clarified
being gay has no bearing on a person's physical or mental fitness.

Height on the other hand can affect a person's physical capabilities.

I was playing on the comparison because I know many homophobes act as if being gay is something a person can change. So I was being snarky because the analogy is flawed and silly.

8. You need to work on your critical reading skills
the poster said neither of those things.

They said that should be the measure by which a soldier is gauged.

11. My reading skills are just fine, thank you.
Just because it was read one way or another, doesn't imply a problem with literacy.

12. Then you were intentionally misinterpreting the statement?
I'd say that's worse.

13. Are you intentionally unethical?
Or is it a bad habit you picked up in childhood?

See how that works? Accusations can be made easy, even without any ground to stand on. Like you accusing me of intentionally misinterpreting what the poster wrote. Question yourself on that. What sort of malicious intent would be my motive? I know personally not the poster nor have I ever spoken to the poster that I am aware of. Which, if you looked closely at what I wrote, was a question, which, if you will see, the poster clarified. There's no rabid rant there. No accusations, no conspiracy theory. Just a too ambiguous statement on a hotly debated subject. And guess what? The poster added some clarity. That's how it's done in the rational world. Not question someone's literacy skills then accuse them of being an evil doer. I assure you, I am not sneaking around corners to suggest something awful about this poster. I asked a question, it was answered. That's how the world should work, it's how it should go around. But I'll forgive you for thinking bad thoughts about me. I don't know your reasons for it, but I forgive you.

Have a nice day.

10. There's the difference.
As the recent spate of DADT discharges show, we have GLBT personnel who earned medals for valor, did every task from translating Arabic to fighting and leading troops on the battlefield to flying jet fighters - they're fully capable of doing all the work that straight servicemembers can do, and do it well.

The only thing holding things up is bigoted asshats in Washington.

14. Bielat is going to get stomped in a week and a half, and no one will ever hear
from him again.

Good riddance.
