Juan's "fear" makes no sense whatsoever.
If you going to fear anything along those lines it would make more sense to fear muslims wearing Nat Nast
looking resort wear shirts, slacks & a nice pair of shoes. WTF? :)

1. $2,000,000 can make a feller say lots of funny things.
Its amazing how quickly Juan pivoted from his "liberal" persona to a new "enlightened" neo-conservative - isn't it?

I'll bet his FOX deal was in place before he "shared his feelings."

5. I think you have something
I think that FOX made him the offer and he was trying to find a way out of his contract with NPR. Most people who just up and quit don't get much if any compensation, but if you're fired, that's a whole different story.

He knew exactly what he had to do, to get NPR to fire him, and it worked.

6. And surprise of surprises - Fox is standing there with a two million dollar contract...
Question, who works at Fox?

Answer, KKKarl Rove.

3. Would a terrorist of any persuation do anything to bring attention to themselves,
or to make people fearful of them?

Stupid, irrational thinking.

4. People who wear the sort of clothing that Juan fears pretty much always
bring a smile to my face. He's a fucking idiot.

9. Yes, it's irrational.
It's the same kind of thinking that makes people go crazy after a plane crash, avoiding a plane flight but instead driving a few hundred miles.

Humans are very, very bad at assessing statistical risks. High-profile instances, even if rare, tend to crowd out routine and much more frequent risks. Even very intelligent people make this kind of mistake, esp. if the risks are very salient, affect them emotionally, or aren't quantifiable with precision.

7. It's not supposed to make sense, of course
It's supposed to appeal to the fear and loathing that's been ginned up in the electorate for the last year or so. Williams knows that. Fox knows that. But worst of all is that the popular media knuckleheads pretending to be mystified by Williams' firing know it, too. You want to see some real self-censorship? Watch as the non-Fox media continue to ignore the hatred and discontent fomented by one particular side of the political spectrum. The next right wing terrorist attack will be explained away as an isolated incident by a lone nut, as if this guy (and it will be a guy) just sprang up whole from the ground without any careful nurturing and tending by Fox and the rest of the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer.
