listen to some right-wing talk radio for a while and you'll hear reporters invited on from mainstream outlets, but you won't hear reporters from the NYT.
If you want to understand the NYT's reasoning, listen to what happens when these people go on, for example, the Hugh Hewitt show. He's got Candy Crowley from CNN, Mark Halperin from ABC, Howard Kurtz from CNN and Wash. Post, and Chris Cillizza from the Wash Post, and a whole big bunch from Politico of course.
The host butters them up, plugs all their shit, and in return, they pretty much endorse whatever GOP talking points the host throws at them. Oh, they pretend to be reasonable, just like Juan Williams, but they end up giving their stamp of approval to the GOP spin. And therefore implying the CNN, ABC, Washington Post's stamp of approval.
NYT doesn't want any part of that, to their credit. Same with NPR.
