Netflix suffers big outage as stock hits new peak
It was a great day to be a Netflix shareholder, but not a good one to be a Netflix subscriber hoping to watch a movie through the company's service.

Just hours after Netflix's stock price hit an all-time high Thursday, its website began suffering outages that prevented many of its nearly 17 million subscribers from streaming video over the Internet.

The breakdown was especially embarrassing because it occurred the day after Netflix CEO Reed Hastings predicted that subscribers will soon be watching more hours of video on the Internet than on DVDs, which the company delivers by mail.

Netflix says engineers are trying to fix the problem.

2. We get more annoying outages from Netflix than we did from Comcast

We fired Comcast years ago and went to Verizon.

While Netflix has the best pricing formula, the (similar, but more expensive) streaming service from Verizon is far more stable.

I am not at all displeased with Netflix, just saying their streaming service can use some work.

3. I only watch Netflix's streaming video late at night or on weekends.

I don't like to try to watch at times when internet traffic makes the dreaded FROZEN PICTURE more likely on Netflix.

It can't be beat for watching a season of 30 Rock or The Office, one show after another. 22 minutes an episode, no commercials, and great picture quality.

4. We have been trying to watch
the Canadian series "Intelligence". I was kidding my sister that they were getting too close to the truth about US intelligence and the "Feds" shut them down.

Irritating, to say the least.

7. It is very intriguing.
Everyone is spying on everyone else. You don't know who to trust. You sometimes wonder who is more corrupt, the bad guys or the good guys. It is a toss-up as far as I have watched so far.

5. damn! "Netflix Eats Up 20 Percent Of U.S. Downstream Bandwidth" (PCMag)
Amidst news of a Netflix site outage this afternoon, a new report says Netflix accounts for more than 20 percent of all downstream Internet traffic during peak times in the U.S.

U.S. Netflix streaming traffic is heaviest between 8-10pm.

8. So that's what happened....
it was quiet at work today and I wanted to watch a movie while I did some computer work, but I couldn't get Netflix to load on my iPhone. I finally was able to get it to work when I deleted the app, downloaded it again, and opened it on my wifi. This afternoon it seemed to be back to normal.

9. We watched the first 3 seasons of BSG a couple weekends ago...
never had any trouble. I can probably count of one hand the times we've had interrupted service since we began using the streaming service last year, and it didn't last long at all.
