Libertarian candidate Jim Berns said he did his best to get arrested outside last night’s 1st Congressional District debate – but failed.

Berns is angry at not being invited to the debate, which featured feisty exchanges between Democratic Rep. Steve Driehaus and Republican challenger Steve Chabot. (The debate sponsors, which include the Enquirer, rely on the League of Women Voters criteria for debate inclusion.)

“The place was crawling with cops and I got very confrontational with them, but I think they were under orders not to arrest me,” Berns said.

Loitering, littering, spitting on the sidewalk; he was such a hooligan that the police were afraid to arrest him, that was his problem.
