1968 Playboy Playmate of the Year Angela Dorian has been charged with attempted murder -- after she allegedly shot her boyfriend from close range in their Hollywood apartment Saturday night ... TMZ has learned.

66-year-old Dorian -- aka Victoria Rathgeb -- aka Victoria Vetri -- (currently 5'5", 110 lbs) was arrested late Saturday night -- and is still behind bars. Bail has been set at $1,000,000.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... they believe Dorian and her BF were having an argument that turned physical -- and that's when Dorian grabbed a handgun and fired at least one shot into her boyfriend's upper body. The boyfriend was rushed to a nearby hospital -- we're told he's expected to survive.

When authorities first arrived to the scene, Dorian told cops that her boyfriend was shot by a drug dealer.

If convicted, Dorian could face up to life in prison.

3. I only saw height and weight
an important factor in the use of a weapon, and extenuating circumstances.

depending on how much of an asshole her ex is, could easily justify her use of a firearm.

What I don't understand is how is her plight any more important than the countless women who are assaulted every year?
But if this brings light to that, then maybe it's not a bad thing.

9. Her 'plight?'
She shot a person - there is no indication of domestic abuse or any "plight" in the story.

And no, her ex possibly being an asshole is *not* justification for assault with or without a weapon. Christ on a stick - sometimes women, like men, do bad things. Inventing some excuse to make her appear to be a victim is just mind-bogglingly stupid.

2. Drug Dealer? Bad Excuse.
if you're going to shoot your boyfriend, claim self defense. Duh.

While a part of me wonders what will come out of this, for the most part I realize it doesn't really matter or affect my life. There are so many more important things happening.

5. She was in Rosemary's Baby - as the girl who jumped to her death
when she found out what the Castavets had in store for her (or was she pushed?). One of my favorite films.
