Do you know of anyone who committed suicide due to foreclosure?

A peace friend with the Veteran of Peace son committed suicide last week he was 35 and he lost his job, then his home was foreclosed on. and last week he committed suicide.

since we went to war in Iraq, this Vet has worked tirelessly to help other Vets, to protest the war, and doing Counter Recruiting.

He is so sweet and compassionate. and often writes letters to the editor saying what is this war costing us?

His son's wake was tonight and tomorrow morning he will bury his beautiful 35 year old son.

And this country can't put a moratorium on foreclosures.

It is the 2nd story of someone who was close to someone who committed suicide after being foreclosed on.

The other was a friend who had a neighbor who was a Vietnam Vet.. he had lost his job of 20 years. then he lost his home after not finding work for 2 years. He shot himself at home.

My cousin's husband almost committed suicide. he lost his job and in two years they were facing foreclosure. Luckily he changed his mind that night. They still lost their home, and they had put down 20%, and had a fixed rate loan.
they had to move many miles away from friends and family to find work and rent an apt with 2 little kids.

It made me wonder.. is any group keeping track of suicides in part due to foreclosure?

Do you know of someone ?

I don't know or personally know of anyone who has lost a home to foreclosure.

I know three people who bought their first homes recently at foreclosure sales, or as REOs.

2. I know of several dozen.
Having spent a long, long time near and dear to that biz, I've heard and read some horrible, haunting tales. Each one backed up by the truth of a death certificate or probate.

It's one reason why I stick around, but now on *this* side of the fence.

If I were very wealthy, here in Florida, I'd bill with the Gods.

3. I know someone who took his life
due to extreme financial problems (large debt due to business ventures), about two years ago. His daughter found him hanging in his room. It really was an awful thing, they have just now finally sold the house which is good. Mom took both girls to live in Costa Rica for a year after it happened just to pull together for awhile. The dad was a great guy and really loved his family, it was a real shock to everyone.

4. Yes, last month a co-worker's step-father killed himself. Foreclosure was imminent
as was a multitude of other financial woes getting critical due to his being laid off and his savings wiped out. Stepped out into the shed in the backyard and put a bullet in his brain. He didn't have any life insurance for his wife either. A mess.

5. Most life insurance policies don't cover in cases of suicide
I understand his pain, but I'm sure his family would want him alive more than anything money could buy. I'm sorry he wasn't able to see that.

They need to start a "It Gets Better Project" for people facing financial hardships.

the co. that just laid me off cleans up suicides occasionally and there have been several this summer where we were told there were $ problems involved.

9. Sure wish I had known there were companies that clean up after suicides
A older neighbor lady bled herself to death in the bathtub near where I lived about 30 years ago. Guess who got stuck cleaning that up? Yep, her elderly husband asked me to do it and I did. I would have paid anything not to have done that.

8. I haven't known any personally. However, in my area, about a year ago,

there was a man who had been solidly middle class and had some financial difficulties, and he tried to rob a bank. Luckily nobody was killed.
