The ACLU is a Great Organization!
Here is a quick test for you. Go to Google News . Type ACLU. Then find one case where they are not fighting for freedom and justice. They are truly a great organization and I am thankful everyday that they are around.

3. The one group I will always give money to as long as I have something to give
is the ACLU. Amazing group.

Of course, I'm partially biased--I got a scholarship from them once.

4. Here's one: They supported the plaintiffs in Citizens United.
They agreed with them that corporations are people and money is speech. That's not gonna do much for freedom and justice.

8. And you are taking one thing you disagree with...
And using it against an organization that has fought for justice for 90 years.

20. Yet you didn't explain how Citizens United, which the ACLU supported
Leads to the advancement of freedom and justice for living, breathing people.

11. Citizens United is the Dred Scott of our time. The ACLU majorly fucked up on that one.
They accepted the premise that corporations are people and not the nonliving legal constructs that they are.

15. People form corporations. They are a means that people come together.
There are other kinds of corporations then Walmart, you know. Some don't sell things at all.

19. GMAFB. The Walmarts and other big behemoths benefited the most from Citizens United
Millions of Walmart employees (who pretty much have no choice but to work there) are having the company "speak" for them in the form of now unchecked contributions to politicians who oppose unions, minimum wages, safety and environmental standards, etc.

would be twisting this one

GOOD ONE!

please help our good friends, the corporations

they don't have enough access to free speech, do they?

they won't be happy until they drown out all other voices, so that their own are the only ones heard

21. The ACLU is not a poster child for the right or the left.
They advocate for free speech. In the case of Citizens United I feel they made a HUGE mistake because they bought the RW fiction that corporations are people and that money is speech. And I'm letting them know with my "speech" (money) that they fucked up.

22. That is their point. THey defend anyone because they are standing on legal principles and not the
person. They are looking long term to a freer society.

23. How about anything involving the second amendment?
They should be called the American Civil Liberties (except that yucky one about guns) Union but I guess ACLETYOAGU doesn't have quite the same ring.

Wake me up when they respect the Bill of Rights .... the WHOLE Bill of Rights.

24. Here you go
At least one chapter does.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jul/11/only-nevada-aclu-opposes-gun-control/

“The Nevada ACLU respects the individual’s right to bear arms subject to constitutionally permissible regulations,” a statement on the organization’s Web site said. “The ACLU of Nevada will defend this right as it defends other constitutional rights.”

“This was the consensus,” said Allen Lichtenstein, general counsel for ACLU of Nevada. “There really wasn’t a lot of dissent.”
