The United States is not above the law - put the war criminals on trial
Incidents like Abu Gharib, Haditha, and Fallujah are not isolated incidents. Our soldiers are over there terrorizing Iraqi civilians on a regular basis - kicking in doors in the middle of the night, hauling people away without due process, engaging in torture, and other horrific acts. Just look at what's going on down in Guantanamo. All the Pentagon has to do is label someone an "insurgent" or "Al Qaeda affiliate", and they think they have carte blanche to do whatever they desire, international law be damned.

The only way to regain the trust of the world is to hold those responsible for these crimes accountable for their actions. Every last one of them. Starting from the top (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Gonzalez, etc) all the way down the line to the ones issuing the orders in Iraq to those carrying them out. We also need to prosecute those who profited from the war, reaping in billion$ at the expense of all these innocent lives. It's time to rid our system of these bad apples. As long as we refuse to hold our own war criminals accountable, we have no right to lecture the rest of the world on how they should act.

1. Let's finally see some of that "personal responsibilty" the repugs love to blather about!
CRIMES have been committed. Big ones.
We all know it, and we all know who committed them.

2. You realize that we are both "against the troops"
I'm sure that the freepers will be all over my post, accusing me of being anti-military. Nothing could be further from the truth. My father fought in the Persian Gulf War and Vietnam; my grandfather fought in the Philippines during WWII; my great-grandfather served in WWI, and I have ancestors who fought on both sides of the Civil War. I personally served several years in the National Guard, and my brother did several years in the Army. Military runs in my family.

What I am against is this current war. The notion of "they're only following orders" does not hold any water. Every officer is taught that you are obligated not to obey an illegal order. Nazi soldiers tried using that excuse after WWII, and it didn't hold water then either.

There must be accountability for all the crimes that have been committed in Iraq.

3. Anyone who claims I am "against the troops" is either a liar, a fool, or a lying fool.
And that's a fact.
