Rand Paul thinks the Dept. of Education forces children to learn about same-sex families
Posted by alvinmcewen on @ 10:23 pm

During a debate Thursday between Kentucky Senate candidates Rand Paul and Jack Conway, Paul gave an interesting reason as to why he feels the Department of Education should be abolished.

According to Think Progress:

I would rather the local schools decide things. I don’t like the idea of somebody in Washington deciding that Susie has two mommies is an appropriate family situation and should be taught to my kindergardener at school. That’s what happens when we let things get to a federal level. I think I would rather have local school boards, teachers, parents, people in Paduka deciding about your schools and not have it in Washington.

Paul’s comments are the height of ignorance. According to a March 2007 report by Gary Gates, Lee M.V. Badgett, Jennifer Ehrle Macomber, Kate Chambers of the Urban Institute:

* More than one in three lesbians have given birth and one in six gay men have fathered or adopted a child.

* An estimated 65,500 adopted children are living with a lesbian or gay parent. ..........(more)

2. He doesn't think that is true- he's spouting lies.
Call it what it is. Most of these repuke liebertarians are not stupid- their voters may be but the pols are willfully prevaricating.

4. Having him in the Senate for 6 years is a horrifying thought.

It would be "to the rear, march" on many issues.

7. Whether there are gay parents isn't the issue.
He said he didn't want gay family lifestyles being taught to kindergarten-aged children.

Am I to read this thread that you all support this being a kindergarten classroom topic?

I think I'd feel the same way about this if I were gay. What do you think?

8. As far as discussing the fact that some families are headed by same-sex partners? Absolutely....

The negative programming starts early, so why not counter it with the promotion of acceptance?

9. I still don't get how he came out ahead after the primaries.
The very next day we were hearing how he had the lead when the night before both democrats each garnered more votes cast than he did.

Just how does that math work?
