Anti-Obama billboard raises eyebrows
Caricatures are racist and homophobic, local Dems say

By Charles Ashby
Wednesday, October 13, 2010

A Grand Junction billboard depicting President Barack Obama as a terrorist, a gangster, a Mexican bandit and a gay man is getting national attention.

The billboard, erected along the I-70 Business Loop between 28 1/2 and 29 roads sometime Monday, depicts the four “Obamas” sitting around a table with playing cards showing only sixes bunched in groups of three.

Also on the table is a copy of the Declaration of Independence, a liberty bell, a toy soldier and a statue of Justice holding a balance.

Beneath the Obama caricatures are numerous rats, some of which are labeled as the IRS, trial lawyers, the EPA and the Fed. Sitting above all that is a line, “Vote DemocRAT. Join the game,” which is positioned between two vultures, one of which is labeled the U.N. and the other with the name Soros, a reference to George Soros, a major national Democratic financial supporter.

2. DemocRat!
Wow, that's a freeperism. I had no idea any of them had any money.

Anonymous donor, eh? Gotta love our bought "democracy". The "artist" certainly lacks decorum or really any sense, come to think of it.

23. Please,
do not use the word artist to describe the thug that made this hate-propaganda. This is probably the first time I voluntarily enter into Godwin's Law; this is what the nazi's did, but to Jews and other "undesireables". America better get a grip or it's going to be AmeriKKKa soon.

24. The cartoon is definitely reminiscent of Nazi era propaganda used to promote hatred.
It clearly appeals to bigotry of numerous sorts, including racial prejudice and fear.

Most of those I have encountered who brandish "Godwin's Law", do not understand it, which simply states that the longer a political discussion continues, the greater the probability that a Nazi reference will be invoked. It makes no statement about the accuracy of such an analogy or whether or not it is appropriate. In this instance, a reference to the political propaganda found in Germany in the 1930s, is both accurate and appropriate.

3. It looks really stupid and childish.
And speaks volumes of those responsible. It also makes it clearly obvious that they have no solutions to what ails this country.

6. The freepers would have already vandalized any such billboard
that depicted their side in an unfavorable light.

This makes me sick. Republicans mock their right of free speech.

Is that all? This is a cariacture of Jefferson from over two hundred years ago.

The prairie dog sickened at the sting of the hornet or a diplomatic puppet exhibiting his deceptions

Summary: James Akin's earliest-known signed cartoon, "The Prairie Dog" is an anti-Jefferson satire, relating to Jefferson's covert negotiations for the purchase of West Florida from Spain in 1804. Jefferson, as a scrawny dog, is stung by a hornet with Napoleon's head into coughing up "Two Millions" in gold coins, (the secret appropriation Jefferson sought from Congress for the purchase). On the right dances a man (possibly a French diplomat) with orders from French minister Talleyrand in his pocket and maps of East Florida and West Florida in his hand. He says, "A gull for the People."

I post this picture every time someone says, of politics, that it has never before been this bad or that it has hit a new low. As you can see, that is not the case.

The best comment on the subject was written over two thousand years ago.

Ecclesiastes 1-9

The thing that has been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

This kind of bill board appeals to the comic-book "readers" who only look at cartoons for "information". These are Republican voters.

Republicans (or in this case, the Tea Party arm of the Republican party, because they're one and the same) think this sort of thing is clever and cute, but then can't understand why they can't sway independent voters.

It's because normal, thinking people with common sense and decency find this offensive.

Dumbasses.

We should actually send the people who put that up a thank-you note because any Democrat who sees that will be reminded of the consequences of this election, and become motivated to vote real quick.

22. Well, it would, except . . .
That as soon as it's apparent that this trash might hurt the Republicans, the Nitwit Brigade will be out in force to denounce the billboard as "dirty tricks" by the Democrats in an effort to hurt the good old All-American Republican party. And since the person or company who put up the billboard is safely anonymous, the obvious interpretation will be ignored by the popular media, and the alternative nutso interpretation will be given great credence.
