2. No kidding! I think he's been projecting about Blumenthal all along...
He probably lied about being in Viet Nam at some point.

3. He pulled some strings to get out of going..count on it..
He loves to brag about his time in the Peace Corps, and in his mind he;s rationalized that "he served" in that venue instead of going to Viet Nam.. It;s worthy to go into the Peace Corps, but most young men who got drafted, did not get that choice.. Tweets has a guilty conscience.

4. Maybe that's it - his lie was to himself and he hasn't gotten over it...
Personally, I don't blame anyone who managed to avoid any of our unnecessary wars.

5. Chris Matthews (Draft dodger) is projecting too much.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 04:24 PM by Dawson Leery
Mr. Matthews had his head firmly planted in Bush's rear end on May 1, 2003 (when the fraudulent putz declared "mission accomplished").
Matthews loved the "victory" at that time, he loved the victory of war, even though he never served.
While Richard Blumenthal fought against the inept Veterans Administration to ensure all benefits for veterans, Chris Matthews was paid millions to be on TV pontificating his opinion on matters.

13. I think you're onto something
Matthews does seem to be overcompensating for not serving.

Good to see the CT crowd represented, btw.

Nice star, too. :)

6. Matthews has a fixation on the VN issue
He can't distinguish between the wannabe posers and someone who, in advocating FOR veterans, and beginning a speech with, "I did not serve in Vietnam," sometimes resorted to using the first-person in trying to characterize the challenges faced by VN vets. It's a bad habit, like using the royal "we." But it's not meant to mischaracterize his service.

I'm a VN vet, so I looked very carefully at what Blumenthal has said and what the NYT reported. I can only conclude that Matthews is wrong in failing to make the distinction (and being so obsessed with the issue, even if it's on behalf of VN vets).

If I lived in CT, I'd be happy to vote for Blumenthal. Apart from the fact that he's a good dem candidate, with a good record as a prosecutor and AG, he's been a champion for vets on imoportant vet issues.

14. Matthews has survisor's guilt since he chose the Peace Corps over the Marine Corps.
No put down of Peace Corps vets - just of Matthews. He **SO** wants to be a big manly man and he simply isn't. That's why he swooned for Commander Codpiece and loves to play footsies with the likes of Tom Delay.
