This miner rescue scene... are there iconic images, or am I reading too much into it?

Watch the scene as the phallic bullet-shaped vessel that transports the "life" from one place to another via a long dark tubular-shaped cave-like structure.

This just *reminds* me soooo much of some things, I just can't place them though....
