Local TV News, it's real...

News person: "Once he and his wife were full, they called 911."

Stoned Officer: "I don't know. We made brownies, I think we're dead. Time is going by
really really slow." (he lived)

THC levels: trends in hydroponic versus soil-grown pot (for others who may wonder about this):

Marijuana grown in soil has an average THC level of 8 percent and a street value of $800 per pound. Hydroponic marijuana has a THC level of as high as 30 percent, with a street value of $3,000 to $5,000 per pound.”
http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/newsroom/news_releases/03222007.xml

The escalating prevalence of higher potency marijuana such as sinsemilla appears to have resulted in an increase in average potency levels. The percentage of marijuana samples testing at 9 percent or higher THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) increased more than 600 percent from 1994 (104 of 3,281 samples) to 2002 (545 of 2,378 samples), according to data from the Potency Monitoring Project. The average potency of tested marijuana and sinsemilla during that period also increased. Average THC levels for both types rose approximately 50 percent--from 3.50 to 5.11 percent THC for marijuana and from 7.49 to 11.43 percent THC for sinsemilla.

NDIC Comment: Marijuana potency has increased; however, even with the advances in indoor cultivation techniques and marijuana production methods used throughout the United States and Canada (where much of the higher potency marijuana is produced), THC levels remain, typically, under 15 percent. Growers can and do produce marijuana with potency levels over 20 percent; however, not all growers have the capability or the determination either to produce top quality marijuana or to achieve the highest potential yield from their crops. Increasingly, organized crime groups in Canada and, to a lesser extent, the United States are becoming more involved in large-scale marijuana cultivation and are primarily interested in profits. It is unlikely that they will invest the care required to mass-produce top quality marijuana, particularly in the drying, manicuring, and curing stages of production. This trend should help to stabilize or further slow the rise in average potency levels. http://www.usdoj.gov/ndic/pubs11/13846/marijuana.htm

(Washington, D.C.)—Today, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) released the latest analysis from the University of Mississippi's Potency Monitoring Project which revealed that levels of THC—the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana—have reached the highest-ever levels since scientific analysis of the drug began in the late 1970's. According to the latest data on marijuana samples analyzed to date, the average amount of THC in seized samples has reached 8.5 percent. This compares to an average of just under 4 percent reported in 1983 and represents more than a doubling in the potency of the drug since that time.

Now I don't doubt that there is a desire to overestimate pot potency among the drug enforcement types, but data is data. There does appear to be some increase in THC levels in hydroponic pot over the average soil-grown stuff. All the reason to allow it to be legally grown for those needing it for medical use, if you ask me, since that would be the only way to 'titrate' treatment.

16. Alice B. Brownies are Potent Suckers
I LOVE my brownies but man, you do have to watch how many you eat. Especially if you make it with marijuana butter rather than just dumping your weed in. Potent. Silly-assed cop.

I've had cops take my weed before without busting me. I know they just take it and use it. For one thing, when I was still waiting tables and young, I had a cop who used to leave me a joint for a tip. He probably just took it off some other hippie. That's how cops get their weed.

52. True story - 6-17-91 Made a batch for a Dead Show at Giants
Edited on Mon May-21-07 10:31 AM by lazyriver
Stadium from some crazy imported plants a friend grew hydroponically in his attic. Did the green butter thing outlined in one of the versions of the Marijuana Grower's Guide but made too much butter for the recipe. Kyle and I split the extra butter (just drank it...dumb kids that we were) and each ate a couple of brownies for the ride to the stadium. Big mistake.

In about an hour we learned eating properly made brownies is nothing like smoking herb - full blown hallucinations for about two hours and f'ed up for the whole day. At one point I sincerely believed my arms had fallen off as I could no longer feel or use them and believed my lying eyes that they were, in fact, no longer attached to my body but floating freely in the air inside our van. I remember asking Kyle to roll the windows up so they wouldn't get sucked out and lost on the highway. Problem was, I was the driver because he was coiled up in the fetal position on the floor mumbling something about the Purple Dragon and riding the Road to Ruin. We had to pull off the highway and ended up lost in Carlstadt, NJ in some sort of industrial wasteland. When things calmed down we got up the nerve to walk into a neighborhood bar and ask somebody for directions to the stadium. We made it to the lot just in time to walk into the show and catch the start of Eyes of the World. We gave away the rest of the brownies on the walk to the gate. About 34 people had a hell of a show that day, I'm sure.

If you cook potent weed and butter at the correct temperature to properly extract all the cannabinoids and convert most of them to THC, the result is much more of a narcotic than simply smoking the very same weed. Trust me on that one. Oh yeah, don't drink the butter!

60. Yup
Exactly, people don't always know that. THC is a potent drug when distilled down to it's purity. I make THC oil a lot so I can smoke less.

The last brownies I ate that were made with marijuana butter rather than just dumping your weed in, was about a month ago. A friend made them. I knew how potent they were though so was able to adjust the "dose" to suit myself. I also am someone who likes to trip. Preferably peyote or mushrooms. We had a friend end up in the emergency room all freaked because he went in and ate a bunch of the brownies not realizing it was not going to be just like smoking some weed. He was fine but freaked.

I'm glad you made it to the Dead concert and I am glad you all were OK. The Dead is the group I have seen the second most of any. First most concert...Joan Armatrading.

The cop in this story may have actually made the butter if he looked up online how to make the best brownies. Just dumping weed into the mix is blech. The butter is much better and a trillion times more potent. Poor cop. Or probably...poor ex-cop...<g>

26. This is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while
Ranks right up there with the tech support call for a PC with a stuck drink tray (yes, it's true; I heard a recording of it once).

It's at once sad and frightening that a police officer who has the power to confiscate a drug has bought into the complete and total myth that taking the drug once is harmful in and of itself. This assumes, perhaps rightly, that he'd never done pot in any way before.

I can't imagine anyone using it just once continuing to buy the lie that it can kill you. I'm unaware of any recorded death ever due to THC toxicity.

I'd welcome a correction on that, by the way... but for it to worry me, you'll have to show a trend.

36. I am proud to confess that I am an able bodied hippie!
It is true that todays buds are more potent than the bags of "grass" I would buy at 10$ a "lid" back in the day. That said, cooking weed activates psychoactive properties in todays buds which brings on a different sort of high...ESPECIALLY if eaten. Worse yet, it is a slow creeper, taking between 15-30 minutes before the high starts, after-which it builds and builds. Most likely these two were unaware of this...I'll bet they ate a brownie and "nothing-happened"...so they ate another. The high can be VERY intense, even for folks who regularly smoke today's buds!

So how do I know these things? I am a hippie, it is genetic of course! One should always trust a hippie on all matters pertaining to pot! (So if you find some pot and don't know what to do with it, consult a hippie!)

39. Don't they teach cops about drugs?
I thought the average beat cop had a minimal amount of drug education, so he'd know what drugs did what. And also, if he wanted to use the stuff himself, don't police have testing kits to confirm the presence of other drugs (like heroin, angel dust, et cetera) that might have caused his concern?

I know nothing about these folks, but
I'll postulate the following:

The cop (and his wife), were straight laced, fundie-WASP types, who never really got down before. I'll further postulate that they, during their high school years, were individuals who avoided all interaction with humans of their age group of whom their parental units disapproved.

And as an added bonus, I'll add that they were probably "home schooled" with texts approved by their family pastor.

Finally, I bet the cop and his wife were "first timers", trying this out of a desire to do something forbidden, with the husband having the additional motive of hopeful "kinky sex" later that night.

But no matter what anyone says about this incident later in their lives, at least they can truthfully say:

"I never inhaled."
