67. A serious question about "Imagine" and corporate media
Is my memory failing on this or is it accurate? My recollection is that during the Cheney-Bush war years, no radio station (even 100% classic rock stations in the liberal San Francisco area) ever, ever, ever played "Imagine," except during their once-a-year listener-selected top 500 of all time, where it would have been obvious that they cooked the books if they didn't include it.

The boycott of "Imagine" and all other anti-war music continued for the first year of Obama. Then suddenly, they started playing "Imagine" again.

My theory is that CorpoPravda decided after a year that the wars were now Obama's wars so they could play anti-war songs as if they're anti-Obama songs.

Does anyone else remember ever hearing "Imagine" played on the radio during the Bush years?

I literally walk around work laughing my fool head off at the pompous asses who don't really enjoy their lives, chasing the next big car, the next big house, the next big 'things' - instead of just enjoying life and really looking at the people and the world around them.

He came across as rather pompous and self important.

Are there really many songs while they were Beatles that are only credited to one or the other of them?

I could've sworn I read that they were all credited as Lennon/McCartney.

78. Sorry expert but you are wrong.
Every song written by either Lennon or McCartney during the period the Beatles were together is credited with both writers. All of them. Does not matter who actually wrote what. All the songs are credited with both names.

We don't believe you because you are wrong.

86. Paul wrote it.
I agree with you.

Anyone who might wonder could check, for example, Nicholas Schaffner's wonderful boo, "The Beatles Forever" (page 114); Mark Lewisohn's "The Complete Beatles Chronicle" -- with a nice foreword by George Martin -- to see exactly who not only wrote the song, but was in the studio when the cut for the White Album was made (see Oct 10, 1968 etc).

Or, for the heck of it, read the complete Playboy and Rolling Stone interviews with John. John knew Paul wrote the song, entirely on his own.

82. No, it was written solely by Paul. You can pretty much tell who wrote the song by who sang it
Paul sang the songs he wrote, and John sang the songs he wrote. I can't think of an instance where this didn't happen. When they both collaborated on a song they usually shared vocals.

From Wikipedia:

"Why Don't We Do It in the Road?" is a song by The Beatles released on their 1968 album The Beatles, commonly referred to as The White Album. It was written<1><2> and sung by Paul McCartney,<3><4> but credited to Lennon/McCartney. "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?" is short and simple; 1:42 of twelve-bar blues that begins with three different percussion elements (a hand banging on the back of an acoustic guitar, handclaps, and drums) and features McCartney's increasingly raucous vocal<5> repeating a simple lyric with only two different lines.<6>

McCartney wrote the song after seeing two monkeys copulating in the street while on retreat in Rishikesh, India, with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He marvelled in the simplicity of this natural scenario when compared to the emotional turmoil of human relationships.

McCartney wrote the song after seeing two monkeys copulating in the street while on retreat in Rishikesh, India, with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. He marvelled in the simplicity of this natural scenario when compared to the emotional turmoil of human relationships. He later said:
“ A male just hopped on the back of this female and gave her one, as they say in the vernacular. Within two or three seconds he hopped off again and looked around as if to say, ‘It wasn't me,’ and she looked around as if there'd been some mild disturbance ... And I thought ... that's how simple the act of procreation is ... We have horrendous problems with it, and yet animals don't.<1>

There is a studeo version with John doing lead vocals.

I spoke to a sister-in-law today, who is friends with Yoko. There's a copy of John, alone, doing "Help" on acoustic. There's also a short piece of film of him doing it on piano, that is found on youtube, but I'd love to get a copy of the slower, acoustic version.

53. Just Gimmie Some Truth...
Edited on Sat Oct-09-10 12:44 PM by Bennyboy
’m sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
I’ve had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope
Money for rope
I’m sick to death of seeing thingsFrom tight-lipped, condescending, mama’s little chauvinists
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth now
I’ve had enough of watching scenes
Of schizophrenic, ego-centric, paranoiac, prima-donnas
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth
No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
It’s money for dope
Money for rope
Ah, I’m sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
I’ve had enough of reading thingsBy neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth nowAll I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth nowAll I want is the truthJust gimme some truth
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

58. Gestalt therapy went through to write what America needs
Edited on Sat Oct-09-10 01:16 PM by Ichingcarpenter
They need to scream, because their mother country has deserted them..

Ok... that's harsh and not true.... but we still need to get the angst out
in a healthy way.. Gestalt is an interesting idea though it has
fallen in favor over the years, it still got Lennon through those times..

Gestalt therapy

Gestalt therapy is an existential/experiential form of psychotherapy that emphasizes personal responsibility, and that focuses upon the individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental and social contexts of a person's life, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation.

Gestalt therapy was developed by Fritz Perls, Laura Perls and Paul Goodman in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Primal Scream can out of this.

Imagine, withouth doubt, the best song John Lennon was made. Both the song, and the lyric is great... And also a hope for mankind, after all...

85. Impossible to narrow it down to just one.
I was in the eighth grade when he died. At least one local radio station played "Imagine" in a loop all day, and I knew all the lyrics by bedtime.
