(On a lighter note this morning) Water-shy dog rescued from island

We had a Boxer years ago named Jasmine. She looked a lot like Camille. We have had lots of dogs over the years, she was one of the best.

Diana Anderson of North Platte, Neb., and her 5-year-old boxer, Camille. The dog was rescued Wednesday after spending the night alone on an island in the Missouri River near Plattsmouth.

A North Platte, Neb., woman spent a nervous night beside the Missouri River until volunteers could rescue her dog — which is afraid of water — from an uninhabited river island.

Diana Anderson, 49, and her boxer, Camille, were separated Tuesday afternoon while walking with a friend in the 1,600-acre Tobacco Island/William Gilmour Wildlife Management Area south of Plattsmouth.

Shortly before sunset, men fishing on the riverbank told Anderson they had seen a dog matching Camille's description on an island.

“They said she was barking and whining,” Anderson said. “She must have been scared to death.”

Sue Baker, a Plattsmouth Animal Control officer contacted by Cass County dispatchers, said a strong river current flows toward the island.

Baker and Anderson believe that 5-year-old Camille, who is afraid of water, fell into the river and was swept to the island.

2. Isn't hydrophobia a symptom of rabies?
Nice story, thanks.

4. Indeed it is!
However lots of dogs are naturally hydrophobic as well. My mom's Chow is even afraid of his water dish if the water is too high.
