Just a thought on yesterday's One Nation Rally
I went to Washington yesterday, it was refreshing.

There was a great mixing and it wasn't forced and it wasn't uncomfortable, as such things often turn out to be. What one poster here called disarray seemed to me to be a great meeting of the minds. The Gay and Lesbian folks were there, the anti-war folks, and first and foremost, there were the union workers. I was lucky to talk to a pair of Union iron workers from Ohio on the METRO ride into town from Shady Grove. Neither of them had ever been to DC and they weren't sure they were doing the right thing riding the train into town and of course had no idea what to expect. Two big strong men giddy as school children. I played guide to them until we came up and hit fresh air, pointed them toward the Memorial and wished them a good day. I knew they were gonna have one.

Every march and Rally I've been to in DC in recent years has seemed me to have been hi-jacked by all sorts of irrelevant groups, but that was not the case yesterday. Yesterday all of the groups, each with its different cause, each was relevant and more importantly they were all there as one. This was not, as reported elsewhere, a dysfunctional mixed-mash of competing ideas and ideals, this was indeed and in fact a meeting of the minds. No one was looking at differences because there as a unifying principal, that we are one and we will sink or swim together.

All one needs to do to see the difference between Republicans and Democrats is to attend Rallies of about equal size put on by each of them. Had you gone to Beck's get-together last month and compared it to One Nation yesterday you would have seen the difference. Their's was the product of hatred and ours is the face of unification and progress. After yesterday my faith is renewed. Don't worry folks, the haters can not win, they are as devoid of unifying principal as they are of original thought.

3. Your post just plain made me feel good! Thanks for that!
There's a few more on GD that are super encouraging and I love reading them all.

It's hard to completely lose hope when you see us all gathered together like this.

4. Yesterday was true "Grasroots"
I am one of those so-called Big Ole Union Thugs". But yesterday I had tears in my eyes. I was truly touched.
True Grassroots should not be organized, true Grassroots are many opinions coming together
There were groups there that I may not share the same views, but I believe freedom is acceptance.
Yesterday was huge, not sure of the numbers but I walked for hours, struggling to get through the crowds, just taking it all in.
It was like medicine for my soul, for so long I have seen the country I love be controlled by haters.
There was no hate, only acceptance. I met a young man from Iowa, he in his 20's, me in my 50's and we just hung out, taking it in like school kids. It was so cool!!!
It will be a life-time memory for me.
Now let win these elections, let bring acceptance back to America!!!

10. Brilliant and uplifting analysis!
And exactly why I wanted to go. Just grownups, showing how it's done -- modeling for the rest of the nation diversity, maturity, and passion. Right on!

11. On their own the haters can't win
but combined with massive corporate money they can. We need more efforts like the One Nation Rally.

13. Locally, Saturday 10/2, Labor turned-out strong, for certain state candidates.
I chatted with them. Labor is going to do what is good for Labor and that's the way it SHOULD be.

I just hope my Democrats are strong enough and respectful enough to participate in what's going to happen.

16. Wasn't it great?
Thanks for your post.

Since I got back I've been feeling like that James Wright poem (A Blessing)
"Suddenly I realize
That if I stepped out of my body I would break
Into blossom"

Then I logged in to good ole DU -- why do I now taste a bitten lemon? *sigh*
Why is it so different? Here, such anger between supposed attacks over just one man, versus the juxtaposition of a huge, good group coming together -- the best of all of Humanity *for* Humanity.

It is beyond my ken.

Anyhow, I can't wait for the Stewart/Colbert march -- right before my birthday, yay!

I'm wondering what happened to Billionaires for Bush? (Actually been too busy to even look it up, add one to the job jar.)

I suppose it would be too early for Billionaires for Beck, as that might make some people conceive as Beck actually being a legitimate candidate

but damn! Would that be a lot of fun!
