1. Great article
I am asking for her book for my birthday, sounds like it is worth the read. I wish she was on MSNBC and other outlets, they are not showing much balance in their reporting on education.

3. It's fabulous
I love this woman. Especially after all the hits on teachers this past week, I so appreciate her voice.

2. This article explains why I am so angry at Obama. He is continuing a failed GOP
policy. I cannot vote for him in 2012 unless he dumps Arne Duncan and puts in someone who actually understands schools and teacher evaluations. Obama is going to destroy one of the great institutions in America, the public school system. I am ashamed that I voted for him. I don't make the same mistakes twice and I ask that every parent and school teacher in America urge Obama to change his educational policies.

Making war on one of the huge blocs of Democrats is not the way for the Dems to win in 2010 or 2012.

4. My friends are calling me a one issue voter
I told them I can't think of many issues that matter more than education.

9. An educated society is
needed to have a democracy. Without it we end up with robots and tea partiers. We need real education which is not evident on the programmed test that they have now. Learning how to think and how to learn should be our goals not teaching to tests.

The part that no pol is really touching is the home environment and the need for parents to work longer hours and often more than one job. How are parents expected to be at school meetings when they are working until late at night to make ends meet? Low wages, not being able to leave a job to find another, taking what is given to you at work to keep a job because there is no union protection affect not just the parents but the kids too. If they said that they would be speaking against their donors so it ends up with blame the teachers.

Traveling with my iPad which won't always cut and paste. :grr:

Loved this part:
People who know nothing about education and whose ideas have no basis in research or practice are calling the shots. Left to their own devices, they will destroy public education. They have already demoralized our nation's teachers. Eventually, their bad ideas will fail, because they are wrong.

Ravitch is always on point. I am so incredibly grateful for her voice.
