WASHINGTON - October 1 - Today at 1:00pm eastern time, U.S. military veterans hung an enormous banner on the front of the Newseum, wrapping their message around the First Amendment chiseled in five stories of limestone.

Opposed to the wars and occupations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Palestine, the vets' message said loud and clear: "MR. OBAMA: END THESE FUCKING WARS! WAR IS THE OBSCENITY."

Afghanistan is well more than a year away. No one from the president on down will suggest that it will "ending" next year. The MOST you will get is the start of a troop withdrawal, 2000 troops or less according to people within the administration. The UK prime minister came over here to put Obama on notice that he would be leaving in 2015. There is a very good chance that we will still have well over 20,000 troops in country when Obama leaves office.

And yes, we'd like for him to end Iraq now.
