Whitman: Ok, Fine, Maybe My Husband Knew Maid Was Illegal
California GOP gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman told KNX radio in Los Angeles on Thursday that she suspects the handwriting on a letter regarding the Social Security number of her former housekeeper is her husband's.

Late yesterday, Whitman's husband Dr. Griff Harsh said in a statement that he did not recall receiving the letter, but said "it is possible that I would've scratched a follow up note on a letter like this."

"Since we believed her to be legal, I would have had no reason to suspect that she would not have filled it in and done what was needed to secure her benefits," he said. "It is important to note what this letter actually says: 'this letter makes no statement about your employee's immigration status'."

On Wednesday, Whitman had said "We never received that letter or that notification," and earlier on Thursday, she had suggested her former maid might have intercepted the letter because she handled the mail.

5. laws don't apply to rich people
when you're so rich you don't know what's going on in your own household, how could you be expected to run a government.

4. Oh how well the wealthy elites amongst us...
lie, cheat, and steal as a way of life.

Remember when Chavez was going for Secty. of Labor? She made a virtual slave out of her undocumented housekeeper. Kept Chavez from the Secty. job.

These kinds of people are so very fond of using weasel words--'possible'--to alternate with 'I don't recall.'

6. lololololol
It wasn't me...yeah, I was there when it happened but I was standing waaay over there when it happened. So I couldn't have been involved because I just came to the store to buy some candy with my friends. Just minding my own business...waay over there...away from the what happened. Next thing I knew my friends were fighting and the fight moved around a lot - so it just looks like I was involved...but I was standing waay over there... away from it all. I was there, yeah....I admit I was there....yeah, I said some things...I admit that....but I was standing waay over there when the illegal things took place.

10. All the Richies have illegals. Some employ them, some own them as slaves.
They don't see them as people. That's why they have no problem screwing over people in general so that they can become wealthier and wealthier.

They think they're "different". "Special". "Chosen by God".

If they didn't feel that way, if they were properly socialized, they could never live with themselves.

13. Reminds me of Nathan Thurm
Martin Short's corrupt corporate lawyer character on SNL:

"I know that! Why wouldn't I know that? I'm well aware of that!"

As she nervously denies the latest allegation while simultaneously admitting yesterday's assertions were not completely accurate, etc. Can someone back up the truck and get this garbage off our state's stage?

Just my dos centavos

16. We went from "baseless smear" just a couple of days ago to . . .
"Take her away, boys."

I also like how clueless Whitman seems about the letter from Social Security. Of course the letter says that it makes no statement about her employee's immigration status. The agency that issued the letter was Social Security, not Immigration. Despite the best efforts of Republicans in the last several years to turn everyone into de facto immigration agents, it's still up to the State Department, through Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to make those determinations.

Whitman is either not very smart, or she thinks the people of California aren't very smart. Either way, it's hardly a good reason to install her as governor.
