Durbin says Democrats don't have votes for tax extension
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/09/26/durbin-says-democrats-dont-have-votes-for-tax-extension/

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, the second most powerful Democrat in the Senate, said Sunday that his party does not have the votes they need to pass a tax cut extension for families making less than $250,000 a year.

"I can count, and I know you can too," Durbin told CNN's Candy Crowley on State of the Union. "We have 59 Democrats and not a single Republican in the Senate supports our position."

Democrats need 60 votes in the Senate to overcome a Republican filibuster and pass their tax extension legislation.

(snip)
Durbin said the "only realistic way to address" the issue is to wait until after November's mid-term elections when Republicans are more likely to side with Democrats as a looming deadline approaches. If Congress fails to act, all of the tax cuts will expire, thus raising taxes for Americans at all income levels.

2. Let them expire
Introduce President Obama's permanent tax cuts for the middle-class and make them retroactive.

3. He didn't say how many Democrats support the position.
"We have 59 Democrats and not a single Republican in the Senate supports our position."
Playing word games doesn't help.

5. I doubt if they have 50 votes?
I don't know if they are going to extend the taxcuts or not. Perhaps they should simply let them expire and then pass a new middle-class taxcut that is a little more modest than the $250,000 or less? Perhaps $125,000 or less would be better for our budget and our economy?

7. Make them filibuster it if they want
and remind the voters that if the (R)'s don't STFU and vote on the bill, everyone's taxes will revert.
Not that that would necessarily be a bad thing, but most of the voters are too stupid and greedy to know.

11. They're Waiting Til After Nov Because......
they are going to cave and extend the tax cuts for all - even the above $250,000. They just don't want to piss off what Dem voters they still have before Nov.
