Man sues city and police officers for shooting pit bull during raid
You may have been able to black out the horrific police raid in which a pit bull was shot to death and a 7-year-old boy was held at gunpoint, but Jonathan Whitworth and his family apparently can't. It doesn't help that the frightening video is on YouTube.

Whitworth is suing the city of Columbia and several police officers, claiming his family's constitutional rights were violated, according to the Columbia Daily Tribune.

On February 11, a Columbia SWAT team busted down Whitworth's door, killed his pit bull (you can hear the dog squealing and whimpering on the video), wounded his corgi/pit bull mix, rounded up his wife and 7-year-old son, held them at gunpoint just a few feet from the now dead dog, and handcuffed him. In all, officers fired seven shots.

The police did all of this because they believed Whitworth was a "major marijuana distributor." But this raid totally whiffed, turning up just a small amount of weed, a pipe and a grinder.

8. I hope the family wins big.
I didn't read the full story, and definitely won't be watching the video. Just reading this snippet is horrifying enough.

7. Those pigs should rot in prison.
I hope the guy wins a lot of money, and the pigs have to pay for their cowardly bullshit.

13. This is
sickening beyond words. I recommend not watching the video if you can't handle animal cruelty. It is literally gut wrenching audio of the dog whimpering, then there are gun shots and the whimpering stops. I'm only too happy that the person filming didn't get any video of the dog.

It's disgusting how there are states trying to pass laws making it illegal to videotape police, even in public. Clearly there is a need to protect our human (and animal) rights. It is legal for a company to monitor employees while they are on the job, it should be no different for those carrying guns.

14. Most cities could share a SWAT team
Most of the time, cities do not need a SWAT team. If anything, the county should provide one, or the district.

These SWAT teams cost the tax payers a fortune and they periodically put to use to prove the tax payers that they are needed.

In this case, they were not.

One team with a backup outside is all that was necessary.

If anything, all he did was possess narcotics, aggravated by the fact that there are minors in the house (I personally believe THC is as bad as alcohol), but this did not warrant a SWAT intervention at all.

Was this a meth lab? Was anybody in danger? Was there a hostage situation?

Nope. Just a dude who had pot in his house. Big deal.

16. THC is as bad as alcohol?!
I recommend you read up on marijuana. "I personally believe" has nothing to do with it.
When you do read up, make note of the fact that no one has ever died from "THC poisoning." Literally zero people. It's impossible, scientists can't even kill lab rats with it, and that's when they're purposely trying to.

17. What I mean is they should legalize it
If alcohol is legal, then marijuana should be legal.
