Finland and the Internet
The Finnish government has passed a law that entitles every person to a one megabit-per-second internet connection.

"Even the citizens of remote, rural parts of Finland will be legally entitled to a minimum broadband connection speed of one megabit per second, rising to 100 megabits ber second by 2015."

4. Me, too
It's ironic that my great-grandparents came here because the economy was bad. Now I wanna go back.

6. We are both lucky our families chose the U.S.
Apparently the two major choices at the time were here and Russia. My grandmother always spoke about how those who chose Russia were never really heard from again.

10. Me, three
All four grandparents were born in Finland. I'm considering retiring there in the not-so-distant future.

3. They can do it in a country of that size, it would be about like
one of our states mandating the same thing.

5. Which has been tried, and subsequently blocked, by the corporations that profit
from their legislated stranglehold of our networking infrastructure, which we paid for, BTW.

Privatize profits, socialize losses, what a refreshing change.

8. Australia has made a similar commitment,
and they are well on their way. Not that it's easy, mind you, as they encountered a conservative/private push-back.
