Stephen Colbert to testify before House immigration subcommittee Friday Read more: http://dailycall
Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert is slated to testify at a congressional hearing Friday on immigration
titled “Protecting America’s Harvest.”

One Republican source said Colbert will be testifying “in character,” the Bill O’Reilly-like muse Colbert uses for his show.

A House Judiciary Committee spokeswoman, confirming Colbert would testify, said the hearing matter was a “serious issue . . . this is not a TV stunt.”

Some Republicans have already expressed unhappiness with Colbert witnessing at the hearing, thinking it would make light of a serious issue.

1. Nuts. Didn't look where the link was going...
I don't doubt the story's accurate but I feel a little dirty now.

2. What? Why?
Colbert is an intelligent guy, but I don't think he has specialized, congress-worthy knowledge about immigration.

5. He's been getting involved with UFW
http://takeourjobs.org/

He volunteered to work a field, and met a congressman in the process... who happens to be the one having this hearing.

3. I can't imagine he would testify "in-character"...
Colbert's satire is smart precisely because he is conscientious and passionate about issues. At least, that's MY impression. So I think that while he might have worked in the fields in character, I think he would be "himself" in Committee.

The accusation that he would testify for laughs is probably a lame attempt by Republicans to lay the groundwork that anything he says can't be believed. You know: the whole meme about how Hollywood types can never have valid opinions because "what do they know, they're just entertainers"... Oh, of course, I mean unless you're Ronald Reagan. Or Charlton Heston. Or Fred Thompson. Or Ben Stein. Or Rush Limbaugh. Or, in a word, Republican.

Republicans. The party of HYPOCRISY. The party of NO.

4. Interesting back story.
Apparently, Colbert actually worked as labor on a farm, as part of the "Take Our Jobs" initiative...
