Didn't he make it clear that it's imperative for governments to be prudent managers of money rather than to tax and spend recklessly?
How could people so quickly forget both Reagan the messenger and Reagan the role model? Well, we did.
Somehow we forgot the lesson and accepted Clinton's expensive "Star Wars" initiative, along with other excessive defense spending, and a bizarre combination of increased deposit insurance per personal bank account plus slashing of government regulatory oversight by bank examiners, and stimulus consisting of tax-cuts to provide trickle-down benefits.
Wasn't it obvious that such measures would produce a series of increasing deficits and a huge accumulated debt?
Fortunately, Reagan did one good thing: he tore down the Berlin wall. He prepared by chopping wood at Camp David, so that he would be able to handle the task. With the wall down and Germany reunified, we are ready for the long-awaited sequel to WW I and WW II. To get out of Great Depression II, we need WW III. Only blood sacrifice can appease the economic gods. George W. Bush got us warmed up with Afghanistan and Iraq. Are we ready?
Where do you want to go today? War: do you want to go today? Where do you want to go today? War: do you want to go today?
