"President Obama, Put the Panels Back Up"

This morning in my Los Angeles Times there appeared the article I have linked below and it gives President Jimmy Carter some overdue recognition. The title in the newspaper was better than the title at the LA Times on-line link. The newspaper's printed title is the one I have at the top of the O.P.

It is a great read and I know many of us here at the DU feel the same way and have wanted President Obama to put solar panels on the roof of the White House. In the article, you will learn that the writer actually hunted down and found those original solar panels from Carter's White House.

The printed article's title was "President Obama, Put the Panels Back Up". Yes, indeed.

But, I would take this one step further and ask President Obama that when he does install solar panels back to the roof of the White House (security issues considered, naturally), that he invites President Jimmy Carter and the former First Lady, Rosalynn, to a formal White House celebration and acknowledge that President Carter was ahead of his time and that he correctly warned this nation 30 years ago about our growing dependence on oil and that the White House event finally give President Carter his long-overdue praise and recognition he so richly deserves.

President Obama, give the honor due to President Carter while he is alive. Just do it.

Please read this fantastic article penned by Bill McKibben in the Los Angeles Times.

2. NOT!!!!
If we want to lose the next couple of elections by being compared to Jimmy Carter, go ahead, but those of us who hold the nation dear will oppose this crappy publicity stunt for what it is... a stunt that will be used over and over to compare Dem candidates with Jimmy Carter and bolster the guy who took them down, Ronnie Reagan, and his candidates.

8. They'd be better off standing for SOMETHING
Like repealing DADT
Like repealing DOMA
Like repealing PATRIOT
Like prosecuting war criminals
Like creating full employment

In other words, by doing something useful instead of presenting bullshit publicity stunts that will kick our asses for two election cycles. Personally, I like Jimmy Carter, but he's political suicide with the media we have in this country.

10. Maybe an oil barrel on the White House roof would make you happier?
In case you forget, President Obama promised last year that he wanted to install solar panels and weatherize federal building across the company. The first place to start is at the White House.

And, you are wrong, the American People support solar energy.

And taking this country off our harmful addiction to oil is "standing for something" as you write. It was the seed of the two wars we are in, it was the seed for the Patriot Act, it was the seed for Republican elections and more.

And Jimmy Carter is not political suicide. I can't speak for you, but I treasure and honor those that have done brave things politically.

16. Bull Fucking Shit
After I just railed against vapid publicity stunts, you propose another one, just even more idiotic than the first one. So it's clear that either you cannot understand a thing and are therefore lacking in comprehension, God bless you, or you are muck stirring. I suspect the latter. Buh Bye.

:hi:

11. Aren't those old panels ridiculously inefficient in comparison to the WH's current solar panels?

12. No one was suggesting that Obama put those old panels up. Read the story.
Excerpt: "Here's what they wanted to know: If the administration was serious about spreading the word on renewable energy, why wouldn't it do the obvious thing and put solar panels on the White House?"

13. The WH already has solar panels.
It's also got, I'm sure, all sorts of generators and emergency generators. And all sorts of duct work for the positive air thing they've got. And room for all the snipers and SAMs. So I'm guessing the WH roof is already a little crowded, and has a reasonable amount of panels already for a building of its size and purpose.

15. So, that's where Sarah's imaginary "Death Panels" were.
That was funny. In her brain, we can now thank you for locating her famous imaginary 'death panels'. She'd imagined them on the roof. Foolish us, huh? ;-)

17. Yup
She must speak in codes so secret and arcane that only she and her followers can understand!

Though I suppose that you COULD say that solar panels COULD be considered "death panels"........for the oil and gas companies!
