Notes from the trenches: Dems are VERY busy this season.
Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 03:10 PM by Atman
As some of you know, I work for a political ad agency (Dems/Progs only; others need not apply). We are freakin' SWAMPED. Working 14-16 hour days on major races from sea to oil-covered sea. And you know what? Things "inside" aren't what they're telling you on the news. Most clients are asking for "DEMOCRAT" to be prominent in their ads. They want pics with Obama. We're polling strong, despite what Joe Scab, Chuck Goatee and Gallop spew every morning. The point being, if you're down and out and thinking we're going to get hammered in November, it's because you're listening to too much GOP-owned corporate media. Lots of good stuff is happening, lots of good movement. It's not anywhere close to the dire scenario being promulgated by those in the media who have everything to gain if the Democrats lose.

Don't give up. Now is the time to hunker down and fight -- don't let the bastards change the narrative. America is NOT wanting a return to Bush policies, no matter what the giant conglomo-media tells you. But the key is -- we need to turn out and vote! If we give up and stay home, we hand it to Boner, Newt, Cantor and the same neo-con robber barons who sunk us in the first place.

Have a great weekend...I'll be working, probably for a candidate in your district! :hi:

9. Unfortunately, I don't hope for the OT...
I'm salaried. But we work like crazy for three months, then after the election we get a nice bonus and lots of time off until things start up again in January. "Even years" are always super-busy. "Odd years" are more about positioning, recognition-building and causes/issues. 2012 is going to be a bear. I'm already dreading it, and 2010 isn't even over!

It's the same inevitability game they ran on us to "market" the Gulf invasions. I've even given it a name--Operation Dead Dem Walking!

...(T)he key is -- we need to turn out and vote! If we give up and stay home, we hand it to Boner, Newt, Cantor and the same neo-con robber barons who sunk us in the first place.
The object of the game IS to demoralize enough of us to either go back to voting Repub or stay home. Fool you twice; shame on you!

7. Hell yeah
I am going to be volunteering like crazy over the next 2 months. I refuse to let the medias incompetence influence how enthusiastic I am. I will be doing everything in my power to get my democratic candidates elected. Everyone needs to be volunteering, seriously its not hard, it doesnt take forever and you can make a real difference.

10. Lack Of Real Polling Data...
I was looking for specific races and found other than rushmussen (and we know their modus operandi) there were precious few polls on most House races up to this point. A major reason is the expense of doing 435 or 200 separate polls as opposed to doing a national "beauty contest" poll that gets more headlines and the pundits loins moist. Even Nate Silver is still trying to compile a relaible set of data...thus we really don't know what's goin on out there.

One thing we do know is that there are still many undecideds and I am hearing them when I do surveying...people who are too busy struggling to keep a roof over their heads to worry about 9/11 Mosques and Tax breaks for the rich...but that doesn't mean it will stay that way. I'm starting to see yard signs and bumper stickers...the campaign has just begun and with it 435 separate House races and 33 Senate seats...each with its own dynamic.

While the corporate media is giddy about some massive GOOP wave, methinks people are starting to look at those rushpublican "candidates" and aren't as excited. Democrats may lose seats but I suspect it won't be at the levels the "pundits" expect it to be. While many aren't happy with this administration, it appears some common sense may be settling in...that giving the GOOP any type of power would be far worse than what we're experiencing now. Thanks to the teabaggers the GOOP has alienated themselves from a majority of voters and their only hopes are to win on the fringes. If Democrats stay home the stratergy works...if not, we could see some real fun bloodletting come November. While the corporate media sees 1994...I'm seeing more and more 1998...
