"We are not at war with Islam."
Perhaps the most important thing the President said today?

So why do so many people think we are at war with Islam?

I'd say the primary reason is the invasion of Iraq and the deaths and propaganda that followed that disaster. People heard about the Sunni and the Shia and all they saw was "Islamic" terrorists.

The Iraq War changed the way a lot of people look at Islam, in my opinion.

The President pointed out that we have Muslim soldiers fighting for us in Afghanistan. They are putting their lives on the line for the Americans that would call them "terrorists". This was the most effective part of his speech today, in my opinion.

1. Bush stood with the Christians.
Bush went to war with a Muslim country. The Christians and high ranking military said that we where at war with Islam.

pretty basic.

4. I blame the bu$h regime for many people view on Islam
The fear needed to be there for the bu$h regime to use it to start wars.

Add that need for fear to the criminals in the regime and the already prejudice public and presto you have hate.

For the melting pot of the world we sure have a large number of intolerant.

5. The Iraq War did not change the way people look at Islam
The Iraq War was possible *because of* the way people look at Islam. It was an effect, not a cause.
