At this point an Obama primary challenge from the left looks more likely to be funded by the right
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 11:26 AM by uponit7771
The GOP and the media are looking more and more desperate to push a meme that doesn't exist even trotting out forum trolls. There's no doubt in my mind they'll fund an Obama primary challenger just to claim Obama wasn't left enough.

These bastards were willing to make a deal with Iran during the election of RayGun to gain control of this country......they'll stop at nothing.

In a choice between going very slow and not going at all I'd rather go very slowly in the MORE right direction than the middle class to go backwards constantly.

Your take?

TIA

2. I'd rather go faster in the correct direction, than slower. Since we're talking "what if," here. nt

16. I'm not trapped in those two choices. It's just a hypothetical (false) scenario you made up.
Even the "ardent" supporters of the rightward-leaning Dems are suggesting to work for more progressives in the primaries. I choose where my money, time, and votes go, and they will be going to progressives.

Moreover, there's the question of time-frame. Supporting Halter over Lincoln might look like a short-term loss, but ten years from now might have a bigger effect than anything Lincoln will ever do.

So I reject your attempt to frame my options.

8. In the real world, faster may not be an option
if you have only two choices:

* slowly in the sorta right (most of the time) direction
* rapidly in a really awful direction (think Palin with the football, if you must)

which do you take?

Is this really a difficult question?

5. Obama is not left enough.
That doesn't mean that any real lefties will primary him.

I'm reminded of "Fantastic 4", when Suzie asks Reed why he backed off.
"I thought you wanted a 'stronger' man," he replied.
"I did. Only, I wanted YOU to be that man."

It's not that we lefties want to replace Obama - we just want him to live up to the promise of his campaign and be the progressive liberal he advertised himself to be.

7. My problem with those "we" is they're more willing to complain than to get Obama the resources need
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 11:48 AM by uponit7771
...to BE more left.

FDR had an 83% dem congress most complainers on the left aren't willing to get Obama the same numbers but are MORE willing to complain out loud about what he hasn't done because "...he hasn't even tried..." or some shit like that.

If Obama was fighting a filibuster proof dem congress I'd listen more to the left but he's not he's fighting a middle right leaning congress.

6. really? would it be from the neo-cons or the neo-libs
because what I see is that both sides would like to completely neutralize any form of FDR citizen's rights democrats. I've always considered myself as someone in the middle, believing in strict business regulations, labor rights, aid to the needy, consumer rights, pro-choice, environmental regulation. Now, it appears, I'm one of those far left damn liberals. What was it Coulter said? Oh yeah, something about shooting liberals.

Even if they don't (I mean they're more into spending their valuable assets on themselves), they can say they've invested so as to keep the proles still voting against their own interests. Keep people divided amongst themselves, while they still play ball with the greedy corporate big boys. As long as they maintain the status quo, does it really matter who is playing the game?

10. FUCK YES it matters, Dems have been BETTER than KKKons on civil rights and jobs. That's a fact
...that isn't in dispute looking at the last 100 years.

In my political lifetime a dem president with a KKKon congress grew a middle class and then a KKKon president with a KKKon congress SHRANK the middle class.

The choice is simple for me...

11. Then, maybe the Dems should fund a candidate from the left.
Or, even better, move left to secure the left wing votes rather than move right to secure the "middle".

12. Or maybe the left should vote in a left leaning congress?! Jus sayin, its written how our government
...works and hasn't changed all that much in generations.

Gibbs is right, even Kucinich or Grayson would be able to "try" but without a congress to go along with them they'd fail only slightly less than Obama

13. If the Democrats want the votes of the left..they have to move left.
It's the responsibility of the candidates to convince voters to vote for them. If they're too timid or corrupt to take leftist positions why vote for them? If they aren't leftist and actually are centrists, why vote for them?

"Not as bad" is a piss poor campaign slogan.

19. It's the thought that counts.

And, there's plenty of that around here where every move to the right by the Democrats is followed by a chorus of "just think how bad it would be if the Republicans did it".

15. So which of these would a more left congress have enabled?
He can't find anyone in the previous administration, the CIA, or the military that did anything wrong on torture.

He has tripled the number of troops in Afghanistan.

He chose to follow the SOFA in Iraq.

He chose cadillac taxes and mandates.

He had the torture photos classified.

He has Bush's Sec Def, and his entire staff, still on the job.

He's trying to buy a prison in Illinois so he can keep running Gitmo on a permanent basis at a new address.

He wants to hold people indefinitely without trial.

Honoring Rick Warren on inauguration day.

Let's the military to do a 1 year study before deciding whether to repeal DADT. Asks congress to wait.

Having Axelrod giving the most twisted response to the Prop 8 case, saying he liked the outcome of the case, even though he'd prefer that gay marriage not be legalized.

Prosecuting a larger number of whistle blowers than any previous president.
