Will the USA be smarter in ten years?
After all the shit the USA has gone through, particularly the exposure of the moron class in the country, will the US slowly take a look at itself and learn from all this?

I can't help but hope it will. It seems bad points in history often have a good effect in the long run. Do you think this will happen in this case. Perhaps once the nation gets used to teabaggers and get over the stupidity of them, they will fade away for lack of interest.

Maybe hunting accidents will claim the rest.

1. It's possible.
The big question, in my mind, is whether technology ends up working for the propagandists or for the spread of science/evidence-based reality.

2. Yeah, the ability to ALWAYS get "news" has been harmful
Because it takes out the "Big picture" aspect of news and eventually becomes a list of anecdotes people cherry pick to justify their own beliefs.

and nothing teaches people lessons like hard times.

4. Not if Obama and the Dems keep up this bipartisan attack on public education.
Civics is, after all, one of the subjects not being tested. Since it isn't being tested, imparting that knowledge to our students has, by necessity, been neglectful.

7. I'm sure this is pure coincidence..
There's no way politicians would deliberately keep people in the dark about the way their government is supposed to operate.

22. Lousy public education makes for a lousy public.
Then there's the media...which the warmongers on Wall Street control.

So, no. The next 10 years will be like the last, ITO "national intelligence."

Anybody remember 9-11? That was the Taliban and Iraq, right?

6. Not if the politicians have anything to say about it..
The last thing politicians want is a smart and well informed populace, far too hard to propagandize and demagogue smart people.

Germany in 1930 was one of the most educated countries in the world at the time.

The teabaggers are smart enough to fuck but not smart enough to use consistant birth control and too moral to get abortions.

9. Just look at what we watch:
This voyeuristic crap is enough to make my brain hurt, the way we allow the best 30 second commercial to define, then elect our public officials.

Yes the fall of empire is never pretty, but we are going through it.

Oh, I have NEVER watched any of the "popular" shows, as it embarrasses me to see the lengths people will go to get on T.V./ make money.

23. Hey! I resemble that remark!

Paraphrasing the AP cutline from memory:

"Dan Quayle, left, holds a pumpkin next to his head at a country fair..."

I was working at a newspaper at the time. We all laughed and laughed.

America is going to pay a grave price for being SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW learners. OH YEAH.

Remember, this a nation that gave Ronald Reagan and George W Bewsh TWO terms.

Well, Georgie Porgie had a leetle bit of help each time . . . BUT STILL.

26. HEyHEY
HEyHEY

For the moment, it looks bad, really bad for the posibility that US in just a decade can arise from the ashes of today, to be smarter, and posible better future... Not that US is not full of intelligent, smart, caring, gentle peopole, but rather that they are not in controll of the country... The right-right wing are in power more or less, and they want to turn US longer to the right, all the way to the right... Or at least try to turn the US so long to the right as human posible, before the pendum is going to the left again..

Now they are after Social Security, who they claim is broke, even tho its not, they want back to a age when most peopole most work to their death, or near death, and been keept for by the familiy, if they have the posibility..

The Right in US, want to tear down EVERYTHING that US have had of good the last 75-80 year.. They want back to the day, when the powers to be, had most controll, and where the rest have to keep their hats on, if they want a job.. It something we in norway, called "husmannsmentalitet".. That means a attitude where your livelyhold, your roof over your head is a blessing, not to be taken for granted at all...

It så sad, to se what become of the great USA in my wiew.. And it dosen't look like anyone can do anything to even try to stop the train before its going over the cliff...
