OK, so President Obama 'assailed' the GOP today
Why the fuck hasn't he been doing this for the past nearly two years? The have him and OUR party twisted into a pretzel at every step, and today, two fucking months before the elections he's 'assailing' the GOP for the shit they pull.

What is wrong with this Administration?

2. As he said a couple weeks ago.. "20 months governing, now time for politicking"

A President has to govern first, politic second.

He's a grownup. He's spent the first 20 months accomplishing things.

The GOP spent the past 20 months running against him.

Now he's going to do some "politicking".

...and kick their asses.

13. What's been accomplished is one of the most astonishing political turnarounds in American history
Far more impressive than 1994, from the looks of it at this point.

AND accomplished during a redistricting year.

17. In 1994... the GOP gained 70 seats.... You need to study your US history more
The average loss for the party in control of the White House in midterm elections is 28 seats.

Even if the Dems lose twice that, it is hardly even close to "one of the most astonishing political turnarounds in American history".

Secondly... it hasn't happened yet. "From the looks of it at this point" is the key phrase in what you wrote. Pay close attention to that phrase... because 8 weeks is a lifetime in politics, especially in the 24/7 digital age.

Republicans -to quote Dr. Green had a mandate to go sit in Siberia.

After the outright disasters they created on every front- the very fact that they haven't been relegated to the fringe for a generation- that we're not talking about increasing majorities- rather than losing one or even both houses of Congress and God know how many governorships and statehouses is incredible by itself and historically unprecedented in the modern era.

43. Ah yes, Dr. Green...
The one who said of Obama:

Barack Obama has now, in just a year’s time, become the single most inept president perhaps in all of American history, and certainly in my lifetime.

That Dr. Green? How anyone can take the writer of that kind of hyperbolic nonsense seriously is beyond me.

In their alternate universe, the fact that Obama hasn't dissolved the Senate and created a dictatorship to get his policies through is the reason why a purported "progressive electorate" is about to elect a right-wing Congress. Of course, the poor economy has nothing to do with it. Voters are all liberal, and they only Conservative when Democrats aren't liberal enough for them.

25. Let the Politics Begin
:toast:
I so agree, the President has to try to represent as much of America as he can.

It is a shame that in these desperate time so many on the GOP never stopped the Politics.
They have said "No and let the country be damned."
The GOP have been totally irresponsible.

What I have seen commented on face about our President is disgusting.

It is time for us to mobilize for what we believe and stop all this craziness.

That is why I and many of my friends will be in Washington on Oct,2nd.

Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 08:32 PM by Inuca
he tried to govern in a mature, intelligent way. He was less successful than most of us, I am sure himself included, because the opposition behaved like immature, idiotic brats. And in spite of this, and the unreliability of the dems in Congress, a lot WAS accomplished.

Being all the time on the attack and trying to annihilate the opposition is what the current crop of mindless republicans do. It's not an example to be emulated.

29.  I am not sure what a realistic
and practical alternative would be to what you so vaguely define as "sucking up". I doubt you know either. Standing up and giving fiery speeches a la Grayson is nice, cathartic, and gives you fans on DU and Kos, but does nto achieve much beyond that. I am using Grayson just as an example, by the way, I kinda like the guy, but I think that the cries of "Grayson for president" are extremely childish.

Because even the most delicious and desired say, chocolate chip ice cream (:-)), would stop making your moth water if you have it day after day after day. In other words, you cannot and you should not do "politicking" full speed all the time, it looses its effectiveness and it's no longer of much help when you need it most.

36. Do you ever pay attention to how the media characterizes a Dem President?
They will start the 'angry black man' meme this week even though he had a smile on his face while delivering the smack down.

They will also continue on with 'all you do is play the blame game.'

So in all due respect, there is no way in hell that he could get away with doing this for more than a couple of months.

He had an agenda to get some historic work done, and he did. Actually now is the time to start hammering them imo, since the way the media works - just think of how much wasted breath it would have been.
