he has an 'in' with Jesus. I just recently found out he is Mormon.

I didn't think that Fundies liked the Mormons???? I don't do organized religions so I don't know.

I still think of Mormons are some kind of weird sect with funny underwear. And not just to pick on them...the pope wears pretty dresses, but hates gays.

Organized Religion...what a bunch of crap.

But I thought it was cool that Jesus got really pissed off at the moneychangers. Too bad Christians don't act more like Christ.

Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 06:43 PM by AlbertCat
As a costume designer, I find the Pope's attire more frightening than a "pretty dress. He's still wearing, like, 5th century clothing!!!! This would be fine if he were in a play.... Oh wait! He IS! A milena long absurdist musical production. (the costumes and sets are good though.... and the music!)

41. I thought they were all pretty much cults except Catholics and Anglican
Edited on Mon Sep-06-10 07:00 PM by ThomThom
First there was the Pope and his Bishops than the King of England wanted in on the deal so he started the Church of England, Anglican. Then other sects popped up that disagreed with some point in the teaching until today, we have so many different sects it is hard to keep them all straight as to where they differ.
Weren't they all started by charismatic leaders moving away from accepted teaching like what we call cult leaders today? I personally don't support any religion or believe in god so none of this is very important to me. I just try to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.

and will survive Glenny and his band of idiot followers. Seriously, after a year of 24/7 hawking of his 8/28 revival all that could show up were 87 thousand and many of those were probably there just out of curiousity.

He's not at threat, he's a distraction. Yeah, he's got his followers but most of them are over sixty and aren't about to take up arms against the government. They may be loud but in the grand scheme of things they signify nothing that hasn't been there for generations.

We really shouldn't elevate them to some super power status.

27. They have always
walked among us. If you lived through the 60s you know this. a lot of this is a backlash to the 60s. Just look at the age of the people Beck attracts. These were the same people who in their 20s and 30s hated the USSR, opposed civil rights, womens' rights and free speech. Really this is their last gasp. They are trying to pass on their legacy of fear, hate and nationalism on to their children and grandchildren. I think they will fail. They may go out with a bang but ultimately they will fail.

Edited on Sun Sep-05-10 09:56 PM by Mz Pip
two guys with money can do. It's not like they are the only ones writing this script. There are plenty of people with money on our side of the issues. For what it's worth these guys have been exposed.

This county is too big, too diverse for any one ideology to take over. I do believe that there are more of us than there are of them - 2008 kind of proves that. And those who came out in 2008 may be a bit too quiet these days but they haven't gone away. The likes of the Beckerheads may be loud but we are truly the silent majority.

Even if we lose this election cycle, we are not going to disappear into the woodwork. We'll be back.

26. You Mean The Former Wacky "Morning Zoo" Host And Fall-Down Drunk?
The guy's not a threat to anything other than common sense.

I'm telling you, if we all start laughing at him instead of fearing him, he'll be out of our lives by the end of the year.

Just try this: every time Glenn Beck surfaces as a topic of conversation, just remind people of exactly what I said in my Subject Line. Until 5 years ago, he was the wacky morning host of a "Morning Zoo" radio program, as well as a fall-down drunk. He'll be marginalized before you know it. Just look what happened to Sarah Failin when we all started laughing at her. She's been drummed out of office entirely and is holding onto the bottom rung of the political ladder for dear life.

32. I would say right-wing instigators in general; violence has occurred...
when some of their less civilized followers take their hyperbolic diatribes seriously.

Dr. Tiller was murdered in Kansas. Two people were murdered at a Unitarian church in 2008 by a deranged wingnut that had been driven over the edge by right-wing propganda. Three Pittsburgh police officers were murdered by a racist right-wing nut that had come to believe in "FEMA camps" and an "Obama gun ban," both of which had absolutely no basis in reality. Some wingnut in California got into a shootout with police as he tried to launch a terrorist attack on the ACLU near Frisco. And I'm sure there's been additional acts of violence where the blame lies with right-wing instigators; these are just the ones I remember.

37. Only part of the problem.
Heres the man we really should be afraid of:

The media is already predicting "huge" wins for Repugs and them "taking over the House". This "news" of the FUTURE is a DELIBERATE attempt to a) get Dems to stay home on election day because they've apparently already lost and b) get those wishy-washy undecideds to go with who they think will be on top so as not to be with the "losers" and vote Repug.

Time to break up media companies even more than they did Ma Bell. Time to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.... with fines. Time to insist on accuracy in labeling of "News" vs "Opinion" with clear criteria spelled out..

ever notice how every right wing "movement" implodes after a certain point? They reach critical mass, and I don't know, they suffocate on their own bullshit or something.

Whether its Dan Quayle, Ted Haggard, Newt, Rush, or even W himself, all the RW heroes eventually come toppling down. Glenn Beck will relapse, or insult the wrong group on-air or something, and will join Imus and Dr. Schlessiner in irrelevancy.
