Lindsey Graham Gets It Wrong On The Stimulus
Lindsey Graham Gets It Wrong On The Stimulus: Falsely Claims 2.5 Million Jobs Have Been Lost Since Legislation Passed

A top issue on the Sunday morning talk shows was the Obama administration's record on jobs, with Republicans hitting the stimulus and calling for an extension of the Bush tax cuts. To make, his case, however, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) completely distorted the effects of the stimulus and claimed that it has been responsible for millions of jobs lost.

On NBC's "Meet the Press," Graham called for extending the Bush tax cuts, saying the U.S. taxes and spends too much. To make his claim, he said that the country has lost 2.5 million jobs since the stimulus passed.

GREGORY: Republicans are so concerned about the deficit and overall spending picture in Washington, as Republican leaders say they are. When you talk about extending the Bush tax cuts, yes, it's existing tax policy, but is there a responsibility for Republicans to say if you want to extend all of the cuts that somehow you have to pay for what the impact will be going forward beyond the expiration date on the Treasury?

GRAHAM: Only if you believe that America taxes too little; I think America taxes too much, and we certainly spend too much. I would extend the tax cuts to create private sector jobs. If you increase taxes now at any level, it is going to make it harder to create jobs, and we've lost 2.5 million jobs since the stimulus package passed. We're at 9.6 (percent) unemployment. So I don't think we don't tax too little; I think we spend too much.

(snip)
Graham's faulting of the stimulus on America's job situation goes against an Aug. 24 report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. From the report: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/05/lindsey-graham-stimulus-jobs-bush-tax-cuts-zandi-mccain_n_706124.html

and the CBO estimates that the Stimulus in the first half of this year...

<snip>

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday the Obama administration's economic-stimulus plan has increased the number of employed Americans by between 1.4 million to 3.3 million during the second quarter.

The CBO, in a report released Tuesday, said the Obama administration's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has lowered the unemployment rate by up to 1.8% and raised the level of gross domestic product by up to 4.5%.

2. He's just trying to get back into the good graces of the state party
The local GOP chapters have been censuring him left and right. Here's one example: http://www.aikenstandard.com/Local/0904-GOP-censures-graham

3. Let me take a flying leap here...
I'm going to guess that Gregory didn't bother to correct Graham on this?

Gregory didn't mention the fact that the CBO reports otherwise?

4. I'm convinced that taxing/spending too much is the same as
legislating from the bench. In both cases, it depends on the issue. Pubs don't see war spending as TOO MUCH, Dems don't see HC for all or a WPA program as spending too much. In the lawe, the Pubs think it was just FINE for the SCOTUS to decide a presidential election or declare corps. as people, but think it's legislating from the bench when they found abortions are legal.

They do the same thing with the CBO. hey are GODS when their result is what the Pubs want to hear and evil know-nothings when their opinion is something they don't like.
