Okay, I've Read Posts Here About People Losing Their Disability Already!
What I want to know is "what reason were you given" as to WHY this happened?? I've asked about this and haven't been given an answer! I know about what's going on with the Obama appointed Simpson commission, but I didn't think this is a done deal yet!

So WHY are people losing their disability NOW?? I have a reason to worry and I know others who have reasons too!! If I lose mine, I lose my income!! What's the reason, and what's the alternative??

Anyone??

1. You're going to have to be more specific, I think.
Find one of the threads, and link to it. We need to know the details. There are all kinds of disability benefits.

4. The Only Thing I've Heard Is From Someone Who Told Me They Lost It....
and then the same person said she knew another person who lost it. I asked her WHY, but she never answered my question. So, I just don't have much more info, other than what she said.

On my own, I've never been reviewed other than to tell me that after I was on it for two years, I was required to go onto Medicare. Some might have been unhappy about doing Medicare when they were younger, but I was told it wasn't an option. I actually didn't believe it until I got two notices about it! So I've been on Medicare since 2006!

Other than this person Pm'ing me and replying with the same comment at another thread, I have no other information and don't know where to look!

That's why I was throwing the question out here! So many people have so much information and I thought someone else might have heard about this. Do I have a reason to be worried or is this just a couple of random people who were designated to lose it for a specific reason?

So far, I have never had a problem, but losing this income is going to devastate me. My mother-in-law passed away almost a year ago and my husband and I now have to take care of her place and it's stretching our income as it is. We can't sell her place for internal personal reasons between my husband's brother and him!! Certain stipulations in her will come into play, so my husband does the upkeep and maintenance even though it's a two hour ride from our home!!

And even if we COULD sell, here in Florida we'd practically have to GIVE it away!

Anyway, that's all the information I have, and the person who stated she lost it hasn't answered me as to why.

5. OK. I suppose you're talking about Social Security Disability,
right? There are many other forms of disability payments, so maybe the person who told you that was on something else.

Unless your situation has changed, you're unlikely to lose your SSDI. And there's nothing that has changed up to this point in how that is administered. I'm not sure what's going on with the person you heard from, but without knowing more there's not a lot I can say.

6. There Is A Person Here Who Just Posted On This Issue... It Doesn't Give
much more information, but there were a couple of links provided. But very few answers were forthcoming. I'm going to check out the links, but as others who posted there commented, we DON'T know what, where or why this is going on!!

And under what conditions and to whom they are doing it! It's good for the "heads up' but I still feel like I'm in the dark!

3. I haven't received any notice of a review.
My attorney warned me 10 years ago, I would probably be reviewed every 3 years because of my age. It never happened.

7. I think both Social Security AND Social Security Disability Insurance are under threat.
Ask yourself if those jerks sitting in their beautiful cushy offices in Washington DC really care about the MILLIONS of peons in this country.

What have they shown us for years and years and years and years?!

Jack shit.

This is an epic battle people.

Get ready to fight those bastards or expect to be eating cat food in your retirement.

8. I posted this link on the other thread.
It is the 2010 Social Security Trustees' report. It mentions that disability terminations are expected to be higher through 2018, because SSA is working through a large backlog of continuing disability reviews.

http://www.socialsecurity.gov/OACT/TR/2010/V_programatic.html#89099

That's all I've dug up so far on this issue.

13. That Link Has A Lot Of Information, But I'm Not Sure About What I'm Reading!
It seems to cover the issues, but I don't know WHERE I actually fall, and into what category I belong!

But I'll keep checking around, and will probably try to print this out! Still it's going to take me some time, because to me it's IRS speak, or Government speak! Reference here, check section here, and on and on! I'm sure it has the answers, but still I don't know precisely what questions to ask!

My disability is medically related, but I've been told that when I reach retirement age that I will not longer be eligible for the Disability rate and will then have to convert to the SS rate! I'm just really confused! I really don't want to CALL SS for fear of getting a "red flag" placed by my name, so as I said I'm going to keep looking into this!

BUT, that link is very concise, I just need to figure out where I fit within the charts, etc.

11. If You Get A Response AND The Reason WHY They Got Cut, Or What
program SSA, SSDI, or any type that is being cut, I WOULD LOVE to have the information myself!! This will directly impact me too, if it's a medically related disability claim.

Several posts HAVE been made, and I picked up a couple of links from another thread that can be researched regarding this. Still it's not set in stone as to what is really going on, and for several days now I've been trying to get some STRAIGHT answers about this. Or at least something SPECIFIC regarding this. From what I read, THIS is going on UNDER THE RADAR, whatever that means!

All I'm hearing is that some people have gotten letters, but they don't want to divulge the personal data relating to this. So I'm very confused, because this will impact my lifestyle in a very negative way. While my husband & I have "some" savings, it will GOOOOOOOOOOOO quickly if I get cut off!! And my disability is DIRECTLY related to a medical condition that has NO CURE!!

Here are the links I picked up at the other thread. http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10041.html and http://blogs.alternet.org/refugee and http://blogs.alternet.org/refugee/2010/08/25/useless-ea.../

http://www.invisiblepeople.tv and http://wearevisible.com/why-social-media.html

If these don't work, I can't say what is wrong, but these were posted, but I was unable to look into them because some people came over and I'm just now getting back here tonight.

10. i think it's supplemental security income (SSI) that's currently terminating large numbers of people
Edited on Sun Aug-29-10 02:57 PM by Hannah Bell
ssi = funded from income taxes, a welfare-type program, not social security.

medicaid is also apparently cutting back.

also payments for home care for the disabled -- i'm not sure under which budgets they fall.

state budget deficits are one of the reasons -- supposedly.
