1. Not clear...
but I have heard interviews with his former teaching colleagues in S. Korea who suggest it might have been less than an innocent step over the border-- not suggesting he was spying or anything official, but that he might have had some thought of "helping" those oppressed in some way or another.

9. Given the track record
of the North Koreans over the last 60 years, VMI Dem has a point that a prudent person, particularly a USian should not even get close to the border.
