GOP plans wave of White House probes

If President Barack Obama needed any more incentive to go all out for Democrats this fall, here it is: Republicans are planning a wave of committee investigations targeting the White House and Democratic allies if they win back the majority.

Everything from the microscopic – the New Black Panther party – to the massive –- think bailouts – is on the GOP to-do list, according to a half-dozen Republican aides interviewed by POLITICO.

2. Didn't they already do that when Clinton
was president? And what did it prove except that Clinton was guilty of a BJ? What a colossal waste of money these probes will be. It will cost money that could be used to right the country in a constructive way. We need so much in this country. When are the political parties going to start acting like adults? I know...that's a rhetorical question.

3. They don't care
Anything to stall government and get themselves back in power for their corporate masters. Anything to destroy democracy and demoralize people.

4. They ran an impeachment train under Clinton. They will impeach Obama.
And it has nothing to do with high crimes and misdemeanors.

With Republicans, Impeachment is a political act.

5. In contrast to the pass that Dems always give the pukes. When will they learn that the enemy
is not "an honorable opponent" - they are the enemy!

6. somehow i wonder about this claim. even tho they are
out of power, i think their fingers are still in plenty of things. it will take some doing for them to find anything scummy that has no pubs in it. i suppose the made up stuff and the complete nontroversies might be safe. they will need a microscope, tho. i think this is more fodder for their faithful on the campaign trail than an actual plan.

7. Just another way for the repukes to say
they are too lazy to work for the American people. The only word the pukes know is impeach, they need to increase their vocabulary. They also need to learn there are people in this country other than lobbyists.

10. The House Will Become Part Of The Right Wing Echo Machine...
Whatever the fauxrage of the week, Issa and his ilk will hold endless hearings and won't be afraid to subpoena anyone and everyone they think can come up with some dirt or embarass this administration. This is the next step of obstructionism...a replay of the 90s...to make it appear the government is dysfunctional and its the Democrats fault.

While NONE of the witchhunts during the Clinton years turned up any corruption, the endless investigations along with the corporate media's fascination with the sensational make this tactic a success in forcing Clinton onto the defensive and I expect the same from this administration. Not a pretty thought but one I suspect we'll have to get used to.

14. They won't be looking for "anything scummy."
They'll be looking for anything that embarrasses Democrats, e.g. pseudo-corruption like the whole Joe Sestak scandal.

8. This is pre-election blather just like the rest of it.
They'll make noise and they'll pontificate on all the nooz shows. They'll snort and stomp and paw the ground. They won't impeach. They don't want Biden. Obama is the boogyman they love to hate. I would bet my SS on it.

16. They won't get Biden if they impeach. The attempt would fail in the Senate.
They'll just get what they want, which is a massive reduction in the capacity of the Obama Administration to get anything done.

The Republicans are committed to the promotion of political dysfunction and obstruction when anyone but them are in power. That's what this is about.

9. Contrast this with how investigations and impeachment were OFF THE TABLE
Preemptive self neutering, and letting legitimate CRIMES of TORTURE, TREASON, and massive THEFT go UNPUNISHED!

Weak is an understatement.

Fucking PATHETIC.

15. Dems always want to go for the high road, extend an olive branch, turn the other cheek, etc.
That only works when your opponents aren't totally batshit crazy, venal, and hell-bent on destruction.

HIGH CRIMES. Mass murder, war based on LIES, TORTURE?!
What about the stolen BILLIONS!?

This is NO excuse.

25. It's not the high road, it's complicity.
Edited on Fri Aug-27-10 12:26 PM by Marr
Democrats didn't want to investigate *real* crimes, because they were also involved in them. Republicans are willing to just make shit up and investigate that. Maybe it's because they have a devoted propaganda machine to push these non-stories, maybe it's because their base is just plain dumb and easier to rouse with bullshit, I don't know. I only know that none of these politicians would recognize the high road if you circled it on a map in red crayon.
