Sad thing is, Maine is in poverty *because* of the republican reps they keep sending back to Washington. But they buy into the rhetoric that it's *Washington's* fault, rather than the reps who do nothing for them.

...when I was doing some environmental organizing that displeased some rightwing wackos here in SoCal.

They'd infiltrate meetings, copy down license plate numbers, phone numbers (I got some unusual "voice mails" in those days), and whatever else they could find, in their mimeogrraphed newsletters....

No one in the mainstream press gave a damn, and mainstream liberals didn't care since eco issues were kinda "fringe" anyway.

But we knew if the far right wasn't stopped then, they would keep metastasizing....
