New Ford Fiesta delayed by quality lapse, Mexican hurricane

BY BRENT SNAVELY
FREE PRESS BUSINESS REPORTER

Shipments of the all-new Ford Fiesta were delayed in recent months not just because of weather, but also because of a quality issue with an undisclosed part on the subcompact car, Ford President of the Americas Mark Fields said today.

“We have addressed it and vehicles are shipping from the plant,” Fields said in Dearborn today. “We don’t believe that at this point there are any vehicles in customers’ hands that have that issue.”

Fields declined to say what part was affected or estimate how much of a shipment delay it caused.

Ford, which sold more than 3,000 Fiestas in July, also has dealt with shipment delays caused by a hurricane that knocked out rail lines in Mexico. Ford builds the Fiesta, its all-new subcompact car, at its Cuautitlan Assembly Plant.

Ford promoted the Fiesta for more than a year before it first went on sale in late June but has been dealing with frustrated customers who have complained that they are waiting longer than expected for cars that they pre-ordered. Ford has been sending all customers that pre-ordered a Fiesta an apology letter and a $50 gift card.

1. Maybe it was the Microsnot OS that was buggy.
Have they ever shipped product without known known and unknown unknown bugs?
