Can anyone explain Stumble Upon website and tell me if DU is linked there?
Just heard about this member site and am wondering if there is a link to DU.

Thanks.

1. I use Stumble upon all the time. It isn't so much a website as it is an application.

It is basically a random search engine with which you can specify your interests and the app will take you to websites that fall into the categories you have chosen.

When you download the program, you'll get a toolbar with a "Stumble!" button which you click and the program finds a random website for you.

For instance, my interests include humor, cooking, railroads and aviation. If I click the Stumble button, I have no idea what will come up but it is almost always something I am interested in looking over.

If you select Politics as an interest, you may occasionally be sent to DU. It has happened to me but it isn't all that predictable. As I said, it's totally random.

Edited to add that it is sort of like typing something into Google and hitting the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button.

4. Thanks for the explanation...a photographer told me her site was getting added hits

this past week, and, I was wondering if the link I put up here at DU as a reply in a political photographs thread was the reason why.

I appreciate you taking the time to fill us in. Funny how internet is always spilling out something new - it's hard to keep up.

This was the DU thread that must have been Stumbled Upon:

6. If you have the Stumbleupon add-on for Firefox, there's a SU button that appears
on your browser menu. Once you set-up an account and tick which topics are of interest to you, you can start stumbling (just click on the button and it serves up a random website...click again and another random site pops up...a great time waster if you're bored! )

At any time, you can click on a like button (or dislike) and that page will get updated in the SU search engine. Assuming a few Stumblers (like me) are reading DU, there's a good chance that we can add DU posts to the mix by clicking the 'thumbs up' button.

5. One can also check out other users and see what they like
Like a community of web surfers and the sites that interest them

10. I think I'm starting to get it....the more interests you have that intersect the more likely
and more often your own site will pop up? For instance, since a photograph showed up on political and healthcare sites, it would see an increase in community than just say those exclusively interested in photography....am I right, or offbase?

11. One has a Stumbleupon toolbar
Edited on Wed Aug-25-10 03:58 PM by Angry Dragon
You are free to stumble as you wish
When you sign up you list the things you are interested in
You are free to stumble other stumblers, random sites, just sites you are interested in,
If you have a site you can put a Stumble button on it, a host of ways to surf the web
One finds they are taken to sites that they never would have found on their own

There is also like and dislike, thumbs up or down
and you are free to review sites
