Their country puts people before profits and they have one of the strongest economies in the world. The citizens are much healthier and happier than in America.
The distribution of wealth is not nearly as concentrated there as in America.
Ironically, their economy was modeled on America's economy of the late 1930's.
They have a strong manufacturing base and are China's closest competitor. Of course China uses prisoner and slave labor. West Germany pays their workers a living wage.
Of course, West Germany is SOCIALIST...ewww. Amazingly they have more freedoms than Americans and not nearly the incarceration rate.
Socialism seems to be another word for actual government for and by the people. Where people come before profits and the citizens are treated as if it is their country. Not as if they are living in a corporate owned country where after they have been worked hard and put away wet, they are "milking the tit" if they want any of the money that they have paid into SS, back. Assuming of course, that an American actually lives to see the ever elusive retirement age. Our mortality rate is third world status, just like our current country.

I'm having a bad and sad day. I stopped at a Kroger's that I normally don't go to....this one is in a rich neighborhood (nouveau riche assholes who are probably in debt up to their eyeballs). I needed only three items.

I go to the Express Lane (15 items or less) and here is this wealthy woman (I could tell by the shoes, handbag, coiffed hairdo, etc.) and she is unloading a cart full of items.

I had just had it! I asked her if she could read. Do you see that big sign...it says 15 items. Or is it that you can't count? Which is it? She mumbled something at me that I couldn't hear and just kept unloading her cart. Or is it that you are just simply rude?

I went to the self check-out and did the work myself. Then I asked to see the manager.

She said that the Express Lane is not a 'hard' rule. I told her that I'm sick and tired of these self-entitled rich people who believe their shit don't stink. And two other people standing there agreed with me.

I wonder who I'll yell at next. I'm just so sick of rich people. I'm sick of people/companies not using common sense.

We have given the former Senator several chances at redemption, but his email today to our sister member organization, the Older Women’s League, illustrates his clear disrespect for Social Security, women and the American people, highlighted by his degrading, sexist, ageist and profane language. In the closing few sentences of the e-mail he states, “It’s the same with any system in America. We’ve reached a point now where it’s like a milk cow with 310 million tits! The facts speak for themselves, but Mr. Simpson suggests that anyone supporting people who most need help and who deserve the benefits they paid for must be dishonest or stupid. (Greedy Geezers, Pink Panthers, People not caring a whit about their grandchildren, the lesser people) Such open contempt goes beyond the pale and cannot be tolerated from someone in such a position of authority.

The National Council of Women’s Organizations (NCWO) works in coalition with many other campaigns to prevent misleading and false attacks on Social Security. Forty-five percent of women over age 65, who live alone, do so in poverty. Women, who earn less on average for the same work as men, are hit again upon taking Social Security benefits; due to lower lifetime earnings, women receive on average less than $12,000 per year in Social Security benefits, while men receive nearly $14,000.

Further, women are not living longer in retirement (low-income minority women have seen decreases in life expectancy), and cannot continue to work more years in physically difficult or demanding jobs. Social Security is not an overly generous program helping all seniors live out luxurious retirements. Social Security provides a base level of replacement income for older Americans who can no longer work, and any cuts to benefits, either in the form of smaller checks or by raising the retirement age, will hurt all generations, forcing more and more Americans back into poverty.

It may be good politics to have such an enemy to play off of heading into November, but Mr. President, it is time for you to stand up for the millions of American workers who have paid into Social Security on the promise of a secure retirement, and put them ahead of political sportsmanship. Mr. Simpson must be removed from this commission, either by his own will, or by yours. Show American workers you mean what you say about protecting Social Security. This is your chance.

Everything I had saved or that was in any way valuable was lost to the cost of my wife's care when she suffered cancer. I was insured at the time but that has little to do with care or even paying for the care you need, they pay some, you pay the rest by running up your credit cards until they are maxed and then you sell everything else.

I am actually in a great deal of debt now and have been laid off for the first time in 25 years (over a year now) and when my unemployment runs out that is it.
There are no jobs around for me and I have no family left.

My diet is already mostly rice and beans and I am falling behind on all of my bills as UI does not provide the lifestyle our politicians think it does.

I am also very ill (and will not get better, only worse) with no way to pay for any care to lengthen the time or ease the discomfort, I must wait until I am far enough gone to get help from hospice.

My only hope left is SS disability but am not sure I qualify until again, I am physically worse.
I will soon also expect a 100 dollar cut in unemployment due to the gifts given the Republicans in order to pass the UI extensions in a more bi-partisan way.

I am sure I am on the enemies list. They hate the poor the sick and those that need help.

Corporate bonuses are far more important to 98 per cent of politicians.
I welcome their hate but would prefer a safety net.

The worst thing BBL is that I personaly know a half dozen people in worse shape than myself.

I am completely running out of steam. And that is exactly what they want -- to beat us all down.

All I can think of is that we need to somehow find a way to band together. Have you found any organization that is fighting the whole SS disability thing?

If we could either find something like that, or work to put one together, would you be interested?

I was fortunate to have family that helped and did not have to endure being homeless while caring for my critically ill child. Health Insurance does not guarantee access to medical care. I mean, all I saw earlier was the comment about SS being "a milk cow with 310 million tits." First, I didn't realize he WROTE "tits"-- I thought a journalist might have misinterpreted "teats." Still not a gentile remark, but at least it's agriculturally consistent. Second, with that first caveat, the comment isn't especially shocking in itself. Not the most erudite metaphor, but not terrible, either.

Seeing the entire context really does make a difference. The email is pretty vile. The tits comment still doesn't bother me all that much by itself if he really did mean "cow's teats" rather than "women's breasts," but the rest is irresponsibly unprofessional.

I wonder if Simpson posts on anonymous message boards often. I've noticed lately that my posting history can sometimes influence my emails if I'm not careful-- there's a world of difference between exchanging anonymous arguments with strangers on the internet and email correspondence with someone who knows who you are and who your boss is!
