Those lucky ducky poor!
For a few days now I've heard this commercial for incomeathome.com on Sirius Left, which comes out and talks about how the poor are getting all the healthcare and tax breaks now! Seriously, they are openly trying to claim that the poor have it better than the rich! It's no longer a subliminal suggestion - they're actually stating it!

Who the fuck is so stupid that they would possibly think that the poor have it better than the rich? Does light come from the ground and get sucked into a dark sky where they come from?

1. That's why they are called the poor and not the rich.
Because if the poor are doing so fabulously, why aren't they called the rich?

How much more stupid can it get?

2. This is how the Republicans have gained power. When we question
blue collars who vote Republican---now you know why.

Their tax dollars will be used to give to the poor.

4. It's a good punchline to get a whiny Republican to shut up though.
Whenever I have a discussion with one and it ventures into "the poor have it so good" territory, it's an easy win to counter with the line:

"Heck, if they've got it so good, why don't you quit your job and be poor too?"

7. No, they'll just get all huffy and say "I've got too much self respect to do THAT!"
Oh, I can hear it now...you'll get an earful about how they were raised right, not by "those" people and how hard work was their ingrained standard of conduct, and on and on...

8. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what they do say.
My counter:

STFU. All you're saying is that you're making a choice for your life to be worse, if that's what you really believe. Shoot yourself in the foot all you want, but don't bitch at me because you do it.

5. Republican corporate apologists, that's who.
It's likely the same set of assholes who unbelieveably think that a tax cut is a viable substitute for a living wage job. Or groceries.

9. That's exactly who
The surprising thing is that the Great Unbrained have been so dumbed-down as to now think this makes sense. That's a huge achievement.

10. One thing that poor folks have
is color TVs.

Did you know that?

They ALL have color TVs.

All of them.

Amazing isn't it?

The poor are better off than anyone else because they have color TVs.

And, OMG, this is really important and I nearly forgot it so forgive my lapse...

they have cell phones!

How can they even be poor when they have phones?

I have co-workers who have pointed this out to me time and again.

14. Sure, and this is the year 1986
After all, *no* service carriers offer free phones, um...right?

15. If this was 1986
the poor would be better off than anyone because they get Government Cheese ( it "slices and melts well.").

In those days, the poor drove cadillacs to pick up that cheese.

16. It's amazing how much better life is when you're poor, isn't it?
Those "poor" rich people, struggling to support all those poor "rich" people...

Words no longer even have meaning in this world!

11. why, the rich, of course!
the poor obviously know they're worse off, and that government assistance is cents on the dollar in terms of what they need, never mind what it would take for them to keep up with the joneses.

the rich, on the other hand, most notably the republican rich, are so into martyrdom that they insist they earned their inheritence through hard work and are taxed punitively at the lowest tax rates in several generations, and that the poor have it easy because the government still reluctantly insists on keeping them from falling over dead in the streets.

17. Neither the poor nor the rich have to work for a living
it's just that the rich are much better paid for it.
