Question about carl paladino and republican primary in NY
I live in ny and see paladino signs all over and him all over my tv. i know that he wants to debate rick lazio, but lazio won't do it and seems to assume that he is the republican nominee and that the only person he needs to worry about is cuomo. Does anyone know if there is going to be a republican primary? because i knew that paladino was trying to make there be a primary. i try to explain to my family members who seem to think paladino is going to fix everything that he isn't the answer. but i do believe that he should have a shot at the republican nomination instead of the parties picking the nominee. same should be true for cuomo.

btw... i live in wny who always seem to feel they've been slighted by downstate.

1. I'm in the Finger Lakes region which traditionally swings to the right...
...and I don't see the Paladino signs, fortunately. If I were Lazio, I'd debate Paladino - Paladino's batshit-crazy (even more so than Lazio!). I don't think we have a thing to worry about - Cuomo's got a solid lead.

2. cuomo will most likely beat either one. i think the polls support that.
i just was taken aback by lazio's attitude and that was why i wondered if there was going to be a primary. i know paladino was trying to force a primary. frankly, that is one thing i agree with him on. the voters should be able to pick their nominee. but i say that knowing that it probably doesn't matter. though, people around here (i live between rochester and buffalo) seem to blame patterson for all the problems in this state. i personally think he is in a no win situation no matter what. and i think we could raise a lot of money by just taxing the sale of each share a penny. would get a lot more money from that then trying to force indians to collect taxes on cigarettes. i believe the indians can do whatever they want and that nys has no right to force them to do anything.

but there are a lot of paladino signs around here. and i don't know what they think they'd get from paladino.

4. i hope you don't think i support paladino. because i don't. i was just curious about the state of
the primary with the republicans because of the way lazio was acting. i wouldn't vote for either one of them. but i do believe that the voters should be able to decide their nominees and not the party. i don't know what people like my family members think they'd get with this guy, but it's not like they have benefited from extended unemployment or anything else. oh, they also think sarah palin would be a GREAT president, so..... and i am sure i don't need to tell you what 'news' outlet they watch.

6. well, it seems that the poor are open season. frankly i am not sure why my family members are so
like they are. they think that the only people on welfare are blacks and illegals who just sit around living it up on our tax money. when i tell them that i myself have been on assistance it's somehow different. my husband and i have even had a discussion about what people did with that extra money they got last year for school supplies. now he should know better, because we have been poor as poor can be. and i can assure you that most folks would have used that money to get their kids school supplies. and if they had left over money they probably paid a bill or bought something they needed. i know a few people who would waste taht money on a big tv or something, but that is the exception, though it seems that people like my family members think it's the rule. i know what it's like to be poor. and it's hard enough to just try to pull yourself up out of the big deep hole you are in. keeping people there doesn't help anyone. not everyone has family like i did after we lost everything in a fire. not everyone has family to watch their kids so they can go to work. and there is nothing worse than feeling alone and invisible. i understand that people like my family members must think there is some reason these people are in this situation. some other reason than something that is possible to put them in that situation as well. i don't think paladino or anyone who thinks like he does about the poor has ever had to live on ramen noodles and pbj sandwiches. saving the fruits and vegetables and hte milk for the kids. wearing clothes with holes in them and shoes that are falling apart so your kids have decent clothes for school. because no one who has ever been through that would do that to another. i can't believe anyone who has lived that nightmare of being trapped in a place where you are freezing to death despite a $400/mo propane bill would ever do that to another

7. Very well put...
I know because we are there now and it is no fun. We get shut-off notices every month and the only thing I can do is skip a mortgage payment now and then and try to make it up later.

8. can you call the electric company and make a payment plan?
i know we have one and often end up missing it and getting a shut off notice. we have had our electric shut off a few times over the years. it's awful. everytime i would see a nimo truck i would get anxious and be afraid they would shut us off. had to go buy a corded telephone once so i could tell my husband our electric had been shut off. it's humiliating. have had to go to HEAP for emergency help as well. i hope you can get some help. i know if you are on the edge it sucks. being just over the cut off point really sucks. i believe we are just under it for reduced lunches and heap and just over for foodstamps.

9. We have a payment plan...
and still cannot afford it. We are just above the cutoff line for any help, don't make enough to live on, but too much for assistance.
