WASHINGTON -- Political novice Rick Scott pushed past veteran Bill McCollum to win Florida's Republican gubernatorial primary Tuesday, and Rep. Kendrick Meek prevailed in the state's Senate Democratic nomination over upstart Jeff Greene as voters split on the merits of establishment candidates vs. wealthy outsiders.

Elsewhere, Sens. John McCain and Lisa Murkowski counted on voters to reward political experience as they faced spirited Republican primary challenges in Arizona and Alaska 10 weeks before the general election.

Nominating contests in five states - Vermont also was voting, and Oklahoma held GOP runoffs - highlighted dominant themes of this unpredictable election year, including anti-establishment anger and tea party challenges from the right. But the early results indicated that if there was a single pattern to the night, it was the lack of one.

who has voted a straight Republican ticket in every election since 1949, hates him.

7. Yes, it seemed so
But they had those gawd-awful DRE's then. And Gore won that fetid state in 2000 so don't think that any election since then was even close to honest.

9. Good point.
And I just got a flyer in the mail from the County Board of Elections here in NY saying that they're changing our voting machines. They're going with optical scan voting machines and the instructions are confusing even though I've read them twice. We've had the old lever machines ever since I was old enough to vote. *sigh* :(

10. The lever machines are the best. Electronics should not be involved in vote counting.

12. I totally agree with you. I was really bummed out when I got that flyer...
What county are you in? I'm hoping that this isn't a state-wide change and that Warren County comes to their senses. :(

Welcome to DU, SugarShack! It's great to have you with us! :hi:
